Inspired by Edric's questions about them, I decided they warranted a thread of their own.  So have any of you ever owned any newts?  I had two Chinese Fire-Bellied Newts, and one Paddletail Newt, but they all died a year ago.  There are still quite a few Smooth/Common Newts outside in the pond, but they're wild.

I think reptiles and amphibians are cute. As are spiders, for that matter. But I've never kept any of them as pets. What do they require?

Spiders require insects and I think thats it, I think they don't need water, because they get it from insects they eat... or something like that.

Reptiles and amphibians are cute, I like Artic sea spiders, they look cool, but sort of scary too. I once saw this spider that lives in the amazon forest and I was like "that is really freaky" I kept on dreaming about spiders the whole night and I was like "huh!" when I woke up in the middle of the night, and my brother (Sneakgab) was like "are you all right?", but he was laughing too because he was playing thief 3 and he stabbed someone in the back and blood was spraying out.

Depends on the type.  You need a glass tank, with separate water and land sections. You may need a heater too.  What type were you thinking about getting?

Ummm... what types are there? I don't know anything about available reptilian or amphibious pets.

From Wikipedia:

It has a very poor eyesight, and therefore depends on special sensory nodes on its forehead to detect even the slightest movement in the water.

It was on TV here recently, they live underwater, at the bottom of rivers and pools, so I guess it would be pretty dark down there.  When I'm rich and famous, I'll get a whole ranch of these.
