I was under impression that Google Earth can not do things is real time due to lack of realtime data access. Of course capabilities to spy like that exist. US has the ability to do that using both its military and GPS satelites. However ability to spy like that on people in realtime by private parties would be challenged in the courts as invasion of privacy.

Definitely an invasion of privacy. I can see someone sueing google for taking a picture and uploading it. Say some guy was seen with an ex wife kissing or something and his current wife sees it and divorces him and takes his house and kids. Might piss him off.

Actually I think corporations will step up first to sue in this case because than corporate espionage would become so much easier with this tool, as well as ability to time the market would be greatly improved.

Is it tapping into the cameras that governments put in place?

This might have some cool effects, despite the privacy issues. I wouldn't mind looking at the main street of Amsterdam and looking at what shops are there and how the people live and what the atmosphere is like.

Alot of stoned people, and all the hookers you could imagine. Cool place I've been there. Van Halen wrote a song called Amsterdam one line of the lyrics is,"Stone you like nothing else can". They got that right.

They have vans or whatever with cameras on it and they drive around the city taking pictures. At least that is what they were saying on digg.
