Anyone interested in making a machima movie for Dune?

I've done a few already although they were small and only two (the two where time was taken) were any good. Anyway, I thought (assuming I can get some tangible support for doing so) I might try to get a group togeather to do another, longer and more indepth one. I.e. a script, a plot, voice over actors ect. I'm still attempting to come up with ideas and themes. I was playing with the idea of the Harkonnen sneak attack on Arrakeen, from the Harkonnen grunt's perspective, but it might be too cliche.

Is anyone interested in assisting, developing and deploying?

Check out fanfic for plot/script developments

That would be great. I could, theoretically, participate(Since I have a mic, EBFD, and an editing and recording program - Audacity) but I'm not sure if that is what you're looking for... Some more info?

Well, voice actors would certainly be helpful. I don't have any recording equipment myself and hearing my own voice would probably drive me up a wall anyway.

I wasn't planning on using EBFD, but instead Starsiege:Tribes (as with the other ones in the link). It's a free game so having it available to actors wouldn't be an issue for the most part, and I know how to manipulate it to do just about anything.

But if we plan on making it any significant length (long enough to develop a plot of course) we would need a good sized team of people: people to plan the plot, write a script, play-act the parts, voice act, ect. Given the nature of the medium, we probably would want to make it humorous, since it probably wouldn't lend itself to being "serious." I actually contemplated acting out part, or all of the first book but... I thought it would be just plain insulting.

Um, I have the third file, but how do I play it? WMP doesn't seem to have a visual codec, only an audio one.

As I recall I used the most recent DivX codecs for that one (which is why it's so small). So make sure you have the most recent one. Specifically, the video compression is DIVXMPG4 V3.

Right, I noticed that just after I posted. Well, I have Fraps, too(A program which is meant specifically for recording games) so that can be done. Although I'm more up for voice acting or something to do with the script. I honestly can't say who could be interested or who probably won't, but I have a gut feeling Dante wouldn't mind contributing. Of course, that gut feeling might be the corn making its way through my lower intestine. :P

This is actually quite funny, since just before I saw this post for the first time, I finished watching one episode of Red vs. Blue and have gotten interested in filmography.  :D

EDIT: I have to say, though, my mic is pretty bad. The recording quality is normal, but there are these scrathing noises all throughout the recording. Not enough to drown out the actual recording, but bad enough to be annoying. I'll try to figure something out.

Do you have the full version of Fraps? I've got the free version so I've always had to do things in 30 second bites, and cut the top off so I don't worry about their logo (I'm sure that trick isn't quite legal but...).

If we can get more people that would be great. I should be able to scrounge up a few people to "act" out the parts in-game, but one of us (I usually do it since I usually host and I can record a smoother game) will need to "direct" instead of act so we lose a person there. The other people I usually dredge up can be... difficult to work with at times so the more we can get here, the better.

I have a mic...

im in.

Two so far; that's good. I figure we need 5 distinct voices for about 5 main characters (I figure 3 will be dead by the end). But we'll have about the same number to twice the number of extras we'll need voices for. If you guys can do multiple character voices, that'd work out well.

Let me know if you get it fixed. We'll want the voices all sounding relativly the same in terms of white-noise/quality, or it'll just be a bit weird. This will probably be the most difficult part to achieve since we're not at a single recording location.

Also for the script, start brainstorming; nothing detailed yet, but just ideas. I'm still trying to run through the initial idea I proposed and have managed to beef it up a little bit, but I'm not sure it's the best option yet.

We could still use more people for all aspects of fleshing out this idea if anyone's interested!

Btw, exatreides, your inbox is full >.<

I'd be interested in any area I'm competent in. Let me know what you need help with.

If anyone needs/wants an introduction to the actual game left me know. I'm programming for most of the day today so I'll keep an eye out for connections on the server (which is up). I'll probably do a group one before we start "filming" the visuals (probably not for a few weeks). Familiarity with the game will of course make stage directing go smoother.

Also, we still need a lot more input and development on our theme, plot, and characterization in the Dune Mechinima thread in Fan Fic.
