I downlaoded the XWISC, and ran it, and set it to 72:17:137:93

I ran dune and when I tryed to connect to the serever it timed out.  so I tryed a different server and it still timed out.  Dune is installed on dive E and I am running windows XP home.  I have wierless DSL internet.  and... those are the only things I can think of to tell you.

IP address's are written as 72.17.137.93 (".")

I have had that problem when the serials were not valid or the nick limit was exceeded. As neither of those would apply to RA's server, I am a little stumped for what the problem could be.

Are you saying you tried it on more then the one server ?

Posted

yah.  I tryed more then one server.  no luck.  And no firewalls are keeping it away from the internet.  When I check the Network option in the game it says: 192.168.1.101

is XWISC not changing it to what it needs to be?  how would I fix it?

Thats ok, thats your local IP address. Your routers IP is probably 192.168.0.100 and you have ...101 as your ip.

I will catch you on msn and give you a username/pasword to try.

ok, so erjin999 and I decided that it is a problem with the server.

here is a copy of my host file:

# Copyright © 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.

#

# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.

#

# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each

# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should

# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.

# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one

# space.

#

# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual

# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.

#

# For example:

#

#      102.54.94.97    rhino.acme.com          # source server

#      38.25.63.10    x.acme.com              # x client host

127.0.0.1      localhost

72.17.137.93 irc.westwood.com

72.17.137.93 servserv.westwood.com

I will try to re-install dune and see if that helps.

yah I am.

I talked to RA1024 and we concluded that something is blocking me form connecting to the 4005 port on the server.  We don't know what it is because I tryed it when all my firewalls and all internet securty was off.  so we think it might be blocked my interet provider.  I will check into it.

yea im havnt a strange problem....its seems this has happened all the sudden

one night fine, next time i login..problems..

now it seems i can host games with people joining no problems..but i cannot join,,it crashes with a game.exe error

so i've tried almost everything, reinstall, deleting reg keys, tried  different wol components(ra2 yuris etc)

none of it werks, i've nuked my firewall scanners,,the lot,i even nuked my whole pc again(bit much for a game?)

so after i reinstalled xp again after nuking my whole hdd,  its still doing the exact same thing,

now i could put it down to my isp as well,,or  the server,  either way gg isp gg server gg ww gg ea..all my base are belong to you..i give up ,there is no solution at my end its all in between or at the source..

i tried talking to ra  but he hasnt bothered to respond yet,so either he is very busy or has no idea..

i had a similar problem back in wol days and it was my norton firewall that was the problem, it had blocked the port, i had to uninstall, refortmat and reinstall everything but norton and still had issues until emailling their support and got norton fully removed!!!

i now use mcafee and have no problems.

sorry if thats a bit vague but it was a while ago and i am not very technical computer wise.

well i dont use virus scanners on my gaming rig..it slows it down a bit( as do they all)

i know of the norton issues with ebfd , so i dont let that program(or anything like it) anywhere near my pc..its poison!

i really am stumped..even tried it on my sis' pc..no go, same effect...and thats a bare bones system with xp

gf2/sb16/duron 600/256mb

after seeing it fail again after an fdisk format reinstall(after my post, again) ..installed emp with nothing else..no service packs or other progs, i now know it aint these pc's

ill try looking at my hardware a bit closer,  ill post again if i get any further

yes i am directly connected to the wan not routed

yep sis uses my shared net, although i connected her pc to the modem to test

the ports are not blocked,  i stripped my pc down last night and left it idle for mem cpu tests etc

all i can do now is try again..

oh  i also tried a game with spectral palladin on xwis..same result ,if i join his game, its all over

hmm so its either my isp being tards, or my pc(and all others around it) has just simply had enough of ebfd..?

Ok, so we decided that my problem was probably with my router.  So I chatted with the customer service and they told me to try changing some settings.... and nothing worked.  so they are going to have me update the firmware on the router, they say "updating the firmware will fix all your problems".  riiiiiiight.  whatever.  It turns out that I can't even download the update for the firmware!!!!  I can't connect to their server to download it!!  but I can downlaod anything else.    what the heck is up with this????

Posted

hehe. Try downloading it from somewhere else. If all else fails, give me the address and I wil download it and rehost it on my website with another name so you should be able to get at it.

yep.  couldn't download it from any of my coupers even when they were JUST hooked up to the DSL modem and not connected to the router.  And I could not telnet telnet 72.17.137.93 4005 either.  So I found some info on my DSL modem and I found that the modem has some sort of firewall on it.  SO, I will work with that once my dad is back (I need the password for our interet to mess with the modem)

Buck up settings (or write them down if it doesnt expert to a file) in case you mess things up, just a precaustion.

I did the telnet thing and it didnt work for me either...

See if you can disable the modem firewall.

Excellent news ! Thats go tto be one of the freakiest problems I have seen. Freaky becuase you have at least double, maybe even tripple firewall (if you got a software firewall).

You shuold really need only one. Are you goign to disable the modem firewall permenantly ?

See you online.
