Why must everything be Americanized before anyone will touch it?

The same was made for The war of the worlds, both in the old movie and the new one.

Original book: Early 20th century, location United Kingdom. New movie: Early 21st century, location United States. ???

Everything is Americanized nowadays.

A la Ctrl+F :P Or maybe firefox doesn't have that feature... ;)

Most Japanese/Korean horror films have been set in America in their American versions (i.e. Ring, The Grudge and soon to be Dark Water). I think its something to do with the fact most Americans think that if you keep swimming east from Florida you will hit the West coast of America...

The immediate reasons for Americanisation are quite clear: In the US market, the largest market, american-centric films are vastly more popular - even if that's giving spacemen of 4000 years from now Texan accents. In other countries, american-centric films are, on average, no less popular than local ones, so there's really no incentive for filmmakers to make non-Americaised films.

Why they're popular is a different question of course.

I would presume that it is because most everywhere is already so used to US culture that people don't notice it - but in the US, foreign-centered films are more likely to be rejected as irrelevant, harder to relate to, because of the different context or associations.
