All my MS-DOS games don't work and I can't install any other games. For example, when I start up Dune 1 it comes up with this message

'16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem

E:TD1DUNEPRG.EXE

C:WINNTSYSTEM32AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsft Windows applications.

Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.'

Can anyone help?

Thanks for the mentioning of DOSBox!

It is really a great program. Most times I did not have problems with running games, but the sound wasn't perfect. I did use VDMSound, but that doesn't cover everything. DOSBox seem to do it a little better with that. That, and including that some games do work now, like OMF 2097 (great game)

And, ofcourse, they have a great logo :)

Installing isn't really hard. I assume you are using Windows. Now go to the download section, and download the DOSBox Win32 installer. Put it somewhere, and then run the installer exe file. After installing it. Run DOSBox.exe

You need to mount a drive after this, but how that is done is better explained here:

There was recently a re-release of VDMSound which works much better then the one available from the main site. It is available directly from SourceForge. Sorry no link, but googling 'sourceforge vdmsound' should get you there.

I started playing Return to Castle Wolfenstein but its SOOOO BORING.

So i decided to get my trusty Wolfenstien 3D working! ;D Tryin to do it on 'I'm death incarnate!" :D

Btw, if you happened to find the theme music of Wolfenstien 3D a little catchy and hum it sometimes, DON'T! I recently found out it is in fact the actual Nazi national anthem, which explains those looks people were giving me... :-

Hmm, sounds good. Although I have no idea where you see this recent re-release. Latest is 2.0.4, released August 5, 2001.

And if you google just vdmsound, then the first hit I got was the sourceforge website.

This is a known issue to Microsoft. This page has details on how to resolve it:

Hope it helps :)

As for the so-called re-release, sorry the version I installed is actually VDMSound v2.1.0 BETA. :-

You can get it here: http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewtopic.php?t=2071
