Lots of other good stories here

Here is a sample:

--Police strike back

Iraqi police on Monday launched a surprise attack on an insurgent checkpoint south of Baghdad, killing 25 militants, police said.

Some 60 police officers from the city of Hillah, dressed in civilian clothing, ambushed the militants in the Latifiyah area early Sunday, said an officer with the Babil provincial police force, who declined to give his name.

During a fierce gunbattle that lasted for several hours, 25 insurgents were killed, he said. Iraqi forces reported no casualties.

Latifiyah, about 20 miles south of the capital, is an insurgent hotspot, where coalition and Iraqi forces have come under frequent attack.

Also the Iraqi armed forces lead the attack on fallujah ... i think  Iraq will be secured far sooner than anyone expected.

You mean we didn't stop them at a checkpoint again for no IDs?  And they actually had weapons, not just one in four of them?  Wow...we're getting smarter.

We're getting 'smarter', because we're not stupid enough to stop them from doing their job after training them to do it.  As for more efficient, I concede, we are, it just took a while.

Contrary to what people might think, reinstalling a democracy after a dictator can be hard.

Will take time and resources, but I honestly believe Iraq can manage, and have nicer life than with Saddam.

I agree.  It will never ever be a "quick fix task" to establish freedom or democracy without time, recources and sacrifice.

never has in the past and never will be in the future.  The sooner the "Doomzelots" of the world actually understand this the better.

Well, that's good news. But I really think it will be ages before it will actually be secure.

We had anti-communist insurgents until the 1960s. Hiding in the mountains and forests, veterans from the eastern front, intellectuals, common folk and right-wing.

So, even with Soviet power the opposition remained. It might not be the same. We were going from good to bad; Iraq went from bad to HELL, but eventually they'll have better times.

Actually by any tangible measure the quality of life in Iraq has improved from the days of the Baathist regime in spite of the fact that it is still a warzone.  Fewer civillians are dying, fewer people are starving and many finally have access to basic health necessities thanks in part toa more responsible government, but mostly because of foreign aid.  There is of course lost stability but it was a rather hopeless and miserable stability for most of those who weren't part of Saddam's regime.
