Since we've got Nod vs GDI war going on, I've remembered a remarkable though of mine:

In the recent James Bond film, which is called 'Die Another Day', there's a scene that shows a replica of Sydney Theatre made from ice being destroyed by a light beam generated by an orbital weapon called 'Icarus'. Don't you think it's an allusion on Temple of Nod being destroyed by the Ion Cannon in the GDI ending? This was my first thought when I saw the scene.

And also, Bond's car in the film has a stealth capability - looks great.

I think the Goldeneye, and similar orbital weapons is more a cultural reference to the Cold War than it is to CnC, based on the threat of "star wars" technologies.  Indeed, the Ion Cannon is probably such a reference as well.

Orbital ion cannon is not a thing of C&C, such projects existed since early 80s. Particle accelerators. Problem is that they need much energy for a sufficient effect, and it would be cheaper to make a nuclear weapon on earth than to send a huge satellite with ion cannon and a reactor. And imagine this: such satellite would need to be relatively on low orbit, not more than 500 km over surface. And there it would be too vulnerable. Unlike ie geostationar mapping satellites, which without a problem can carry such reactor for anthene.

I did not think the stealth thing was done very well. I believe they said it worked by basically projecting the view on the other side on to one side of the car, but I find it hard to believe they stuck LCD crystals on the tires. Also, when the window of the car was destroyed you couldn't look inside the car, etc. etc.

Maybe I thought about it too much. :)

I do not believe it is taken from C&C. but when speaking of the bond movie, I thought it sucked. worst Bond movie ever! I missed several elements which you find in the previous Bond movies, such as Casinos. There is too much action in the new movies, and too little investigation.
