The Dogs of war

Alright Guys I have been thinking over this one for quite a while now its a space fic. In the genre of KYA vs SETERA, Age of Chaos and the others.

Who's ready for the storyline? I sure am.

In 2980 A device was found in the lower atmosphere of a gas giant in the Troyu system. It was raised with great effort(Because of its large mass and its proximity to the core of the planet)

All contact was lost with the system 72 hours later. A ship arrived from hyperspace nearly 4 days later to discover a massive unknown fleet in the system. The artifact itself was sorounded by a odd blue field, very smiler  to the red hyperspace fields, but much more power full.

The scans on the enemy ships revealed them to be immensely powerful, The scout ship was a Dakato class battleship, 6 enemy fighters destroyed in a matter of minutes losing only one to the explosion and debre.

2 weeks later Dakto itself fell to the enemy fleet the orbital defense platforms and the defense fleet eviscerated in a matter of hours.

The U.H.E(united Human Empire) Fell in six months, inflicting 88 deaths and withstanding 14 billion of its own. It broadcast its surrender in every known language including mathematics, but to no avail.  The human survivors fled, taking fleets and resources with them

The Hizzari as they have now identify themselves control 44% of all resources in the Galaxy, They control The  Delta and 9/10's of the Gamma qaudrent with utmost rule. No Military force or civilian expedition that entered Hizari space has ever got out.

Long range imaging has sighted massive fleets of enemy craft leaving the galaxy, one heading towards Andromeda and another towards B-1909 All of them carrying a device similar to the one first discovered in Troyu.

The other half of the Galaxy is a patchwork of race's and culture's. From the Spartanstic Tolneps to the reclusive Shadows, Their technology ranges from late atomic cultures that just discovered hyperspace, to race's tens of thousands of years old.

They war each other for resources, land and in the case of the Tolneps Honor.

All of them fear that the Hizzari might once again launch there attacks, that devastated the mighty UHE on themselves. Some of them have put aside there differences to form defense fleets and plan what some think is the inevitable.

Hyperspace:

Hyperspace was discovered shortly after 2410 near mars it opened up the stars to mankind, but other races had discovered it long ago. It acts as a sort of wormhole lets ships travel vast distances in relatively short times(from years to weeks) You cant send a fleet in one post and have it arrive the same post,  Hyperspace jumps aren't perfect even for ancient race's a few thousand kilometers off target usually (so don't jump to close to sun har har)

Just hyperspace

NO warp

No temperal travel

no folding space

Nothing besides Hyperspace and regular propoulsion.

EVERYONE HIZZARI included move this way.

You pick a race, any race with any characteristics except..

They cant be invulnerable

Cant be faster then the eye can see

Cant shoot magical fireballs out of there ass's

No fireproof, bullet proof water proof race's  either

Everything else is good from Squril race's to Humans, to the Donkey armies..

Everyone starts with one system and one ship yard and 50 ships

10 battleships

5 carriers

20 cruisers

15 destroyers

You can build like the fallowing...

5 destroyers per post

2 cruisers per post

half a carrier

and a qourter battleship

You cant build more then one type of ship per shipyard.

You are not limited to the types of ship you make, but these are the basics so building a massive super battleship killer omega type thing would take longer. They are basically timetables

Special note

Super weapons are allowed against the Hizzari, Because of the power of this race, I thought I had to give the young races some advantage. But each person can have a maximum of one super weapon and it can only be used against the Hizzari, and it can be destroyed.

War each other, form alliances, take control of the galaxy, but beware the Hizzari!

CRY HAVOCK AND LET LOOSE THE DOGS OF WAR

The Shadow's

One of the most ancient race's in the galaxy. They were chartin the sky's when humanity was writing on cave's but after a few thousand years they just stopped advancing. They didn't see the need. There ships fire plasma torpedo's and phase cutters, but are unique in one way, they are alive, the piliot of the ship merge's with the ship, and can never leave it. They can carry passeengers though. They ships can heal themselfs slowly over time. The ships are the blackest of blacks, the type that makes your eyes  want to roll off them into the stars.

The shadow's themselvs stand about 6 foot tall, some smaller some taller, but 6 foot is the average hight.

8 eyes.

4 on top

4 right below the others. 6 limbed, 3 to stand un 3 to use. They are resonably strong, stronger then the average human, but weaker then the tolneps. They have the speical abilty to phase out of sight, and become partialy invisible. More of a genticly built in active camaflaug. You can't make them out unless you try, But most of the time they perfer to remain visible...

The shadows are looking for allies.

*After some thought*

The Azt'k.

The Azt'k are reclusive, not given to expansion or exploration. Their planet is mostly covered by unspoiled wilderness, the vast majority of which is pine forests and swamp. When other races cut down their forests to make more room, the Azt'k built up and down. Their cities are few and far between, stretching high into the sky and deep into the ground. Since there are no massive bodies of water on the planet (no oceans, and only a few seas) but plenty of land, the Azt'k are rich in coal, put poor in oil. And without oil, there is no plastic.

The Azt'k ships, therefore, are metallic. They are huge, heavy, and for the most part difficult to maneuovre. They are also powered by one machine that is unique to this culture. The Haemotube. The Haemotube powers all of the ships. On the planet they use wind energy and geothermals but in space... the Haemotube. Every ship has one. A massive compartment, dotted with wires, filled to the brim with blood.

This is why many races dislike the Azt'k. They enslave other Azt'k, breeding them and slaughtering them for their blood, to power the ships. It is also, one surmises, why the Azt'k rarely leave their own system, though they have charted extensively, and why among many civilisations they are known as 'The Vampires.' (In the same way that the BG were known as witches)

The Azt'k upper class are tall and humanoid. Their whole bodies are long and thin, fingers, legs, everything. Their jaws are long, and it is the fashion among them to file their canines to points, to mock their nickname. They have leathery wings, which adds to the image, but cannot fly without mechanical aid. They can be used as powerful weapons though.

The lower class are a different story. They are rarely seen. They are shorter, and their wings are removed at birth. They lead short, unhappy lives. They are always pale, since they are bled throughout, and loss of blood makes them dull, lifeless. They stare ahead most of the time, doing and possibly thinking nothing.

There we go. The Azt'k are not well liked by others, but they are always prepared to trade, and their newest leader looks like he may be more in the mood for expansion...

Race:  Yonji Sinhondrea

Description:  Having been thought weak by it's neighbor races for millenia, it now shows itself to be of decent power. This is because the remnant of the United Federation of Planets was absorbed into it's culture hundreds of years ago. With Federation technology, they became less interested in farming and hunting, and more interested in their destiny in the stars.

Hard to kill in their natural forms, they are nine feet tall with a human-like form.  Out of their elbows come blades as hard as durasteel, and as sharp as diamonds.  All the UFP Remnant races have since died out, incompatible to mate with the Yonji Sinhondrea.

Their homeworld is a sprawling city world, filled with replicator devices to make anything needed.  Five massive power plants power the city world, if anything were to happen to the power plants, things could be catastrophic.

Basic Ship Descriptions:

Destroyers:  Defiant-class vessels from the UFP Remnant, now constructed by the Yonji Sinhondrea.  They have two forward firing pulse phaser cannons, one forward firing quantum torpedo launcher, one rear firing quantum torpedo launcher.  It has light armor and a cloaking device.  It's shields are not the best, but will hold under sustained fire for a few minutes.

Cruisers:  Intrepid-class vessels.  These ships have heavier armor than the Defiants, but their shields and speed are double it.  They have five phaser strips to fire in any direction facing a strip and have one forward firing quantum torpedo launcher, and one forward firing transphasic torpedo launcher.  (Note:  Transphasics dumbed down in power from Voyager, none of that blowing up enemy ships in one shot thing.)

Carriers:  Entara-class vessels.  These are not among the designs of the UFP Remnant, these were designed specifically by the Yonji Sinhondrea themselves, and resemble Earth's killer whales.  They have heavy armor, heavy shields, and 12 amount of phaser strips.

Battleships:  Achilles-class vessels.  These ships are massive and have four shield generators, each on level with a carrier.  They have 12 quantum torpedo launchers, three transphasic torpedo launchers, expanding ablative armor, a cloaking device, four phaser cannons, and a total of 24 phaser strips.

"We are aware of the threat General" The voice's filled his head the chamber of elders speaking directly into his mind, The spoke in a odd combonation of male and female voices,"And we agree that expansion is needed, if the Kizzari move this way our current forces will not be able to stop them. I am placing the Shadow Empire in a state of emergency untill further notice." A wall started to slide down and the elders disapeared behind it.

Exelent General Sharpia thought to himself, finaly the shadow people would emerge from there cocoon and take there rightfull place as masters of the universe. The Hazzari.. He stopped at the word how he hated it, the basterds had destroyed dozens of race's and wasted countless lifes. young ones he reminded himself no shadows.

Rodrigerz sent the single from his crusier to Makjebs ship, to attack the unkown craft at once. It had ventured into shadow space, the race was barely post atomic, the thing looked like it relied on chemical rockets! It wasnt trying to make contact probebly hadnt seen them.

Rodrigerz dove deep into his and the ships memories checking the markings for any known by the Shadow empire. No it hadn't

He moved foward the alien vessel didnt react untill it was practicly ontop of it, it tried to make contact.

The ship had less then a meter of armor and no shielding. He could cut in half with a single slash of the phase cutter but he had other orders for alien vessels.

He begain to settle on top of the ship and latched on, the vessel secreating enzyems that stuck to the ship with ease, then he took off taking the vessel back to Macadria for interagation, examination

and disection.

The Due'He

The race was one that had only risen in these few centuries. Originally, they were at the bottom of the food chain in the harsh flaming planet of Yan'Xing. All they had were etheral bodies, and the ability to take over the body and knowledge of the dead. They had barely escaped from extinction, by taking the few rare cropse of stronger speicies that they could get their hands on.

Then one day...something fell from the skies, something that had changed their fate.

A worldcraft of unknown origin.

The Due'He took the bodies of the unfortunate crews, and leapt from primitives to interstella travellers. Within a year they had conquered Yan'Xing and all species on it. In a decade, the whole system. The conqured race all met either of the three fates:

1)Exterminated after techology and knowledge is totally leeched.

2)Kept and bred in breeding pits for their bodies.

3)The whole race lives under a Matrix like environment, where they are unconscious about the Due'He ruling them. The are still allowed normal lifestyle and advancements, but are nothing more then pawns for the Due'He...

This changed until the Due'He had met with the remants of the UHE. From them the Due'He learnt the ideas of "trade" and "politics", which Due'He had applied against other races, giving an option to the only old choice of "conquer".

The Due'He "homeworld" would be their worldcraft. This alien artifact, however, is still not fully functional and known to the Due'He residing inside it. To tellt he truth, only about 15% of the craft is known to them.

Original form of Due'He can be featured as a weak etheral jellyfish. However, Due'He now take different sapes according to their different roles, with humans being the most popular choice.

King Paldret the eighty-fourth peered short-sightedly at the piece of paper that was being held patiently in front of his nose. He adjusted his glasses.

"Your szigniturre iz all that iz requirred, yourr majesztyy." Grand Vizier Fyrextin drawled, in his usual funny way. From her position on the other side of the King, the Queen sighed a tiny sigh. Fyrextin Gwisher was possibly the most loathed man on the planet, especially when he was anwhere near his monarch's spouse. The Grand Vizier knew this, and whistled through his pointed teeth. He knew it annoyed her.

"I, um well er... what's it for?" The elderly King burbled, his numerous chins wobbling.

"Commencement ofv ann extremelyy larrge space Forrtresss." The Vizier hissed, leaning in closer to the King, folding in his impressively large wings in order to do so. "A larrge ship with grreat defvence but typical attack capabilityy."

"In other words, a home away from home." The Queen suggested archly, not deigning to look in the Vizier's direction.

"Precizzelyy."

"Oh, um... well I- what will it do?"

The Vizier sighed mentally. His father had told him, when he was a boy, that the King's mind was as sharp as a razor. He had said that every day was an adventure because you never knew what cunning traps of death that the royal crown would throw at it's most faithful servent. Unfortunately in the time it had taken for young Fyrextin to grow up, the King had grown out. And out. And out. And out... The man looked like a balding coconut. He was the right shape and colour after all... As for his mind, well, calling him a little slow was like calling a black hole a trifle gloomy.

Fyrextin's face gave not a hint that he was thinking these treasonous thoughts. After all, that's what had got his grandfather into trouble.

"It will alloww usz to travell furrtherr afield, yourr majesztyy." He said, "Negatingg the need forr a returrn to planet, in moszt situationsz. It willl be unabll to move faszter than ourr currrent shipsz, due to itsz siiize, but willl be veryy defvenciblle."

"Oh just sign it, dear." The Queen said with great restraint. Her fingers clenched the armrests of her throne so tightly that the bone was almost popping through the skin. She was trembling with the urge to leap up and tear the Vizier limb from limb, he could tell. He smiled, and guised the King's hand as he 'signed' the document.

"Eternall thanksz, yourr majesztyy." He bowed low, keeping his wings down in a sign of supplication. But, the Queen noticed, not that low. She resisted the desire to break off the Vizier's overlong teeth and drive them into his brain through his ears. One day, she promised herself, when she was the reigning monarch, Fyrextin Gwisher would wish he had never been born.

As the horrible man sidled away from the thrones, the Queen tried to relax the rictus that her face had become. And she would be the reigning monarch. Her husband had a few more years left at most. She was young, beautiful, and ninty years his junior. So long as she could take care of her wretched children there would be no trouble. And she knew just how to do it.

It had been impossible for the Queen to concieve with the King. He was ancient, she was youthful. It had been an effort just to look for crying out loud, let alone do anything! But even when they had, and she tried to block out the memories, no children. So, in an attempt to preserve her own life, for she knew what happened to royal spouses who failed to produce healthy heirs, she... well to put it bluntly she had- well frankly what she had done was... She couldn't think it, even to herself. She knew that it had involved someone else but, the memories were gone.

And she was stuck with children now. Twins, male and female. Both of whom had a better claim on the throne than she did. Queen Ranith sat back, adjusting her wings. Soon, she promised herself, soon...

Fyrextin unfurled his wings as he bowed out the throne room. From now on he was among subordinates, and had no need to appear dutiful or respectful. He stood up taller, and set his face in a purposeful scowl. He turned around, and nearly walked into the Princess. She smiled sweetly.

"P-Princessz Rowenna." He stammered, desperately trying to fold his wings back into their correct political position. A glance to the Princess' left indicated that the situation was worse than he thought. Her brother was there.

"A-and Princze Morrgann, ofv courrsze..." He bowed. And then bowed again, in case once wasn't enough. The two royal heirs smiled pleasently at him. He didn't look at their smiles. He looked at their eyes. They both said to him, in terms of absolute confidence, 'You are alime beneath the heels of our maids. You are a candle among suns. You are a speck of dust on the tail of the cows who provided us with lunch. You are nothing, Fyrextin Gwisher.'

Compared to that their smiles were an uncommunicative as a rock.

"We were just talking..." The Princess said happily,

"About you." Her brother finished. Fyrextin's heart sank. They were doing that again... "In fact," Morgan continued, "we were-"

"-talking about this very-"

"-plan." Morgan took over from his sister, simultaneously removing the signed request for the fortress from the Vizier's unresisting hands. He flashed a pointed grin at Fyrextin, and began to read.

"A fascinating-"

"-concept." Rowenna finished, taking the plans from her brother and giving them back. "We do hope-"

"-that it is completed on-"

"-schedule." So saying, the Prince and Princess walked past the Vizier, into the presence of their parents.

Fyrextin leaned against the wall, panting. Those two were the only people that he feared. Standing up slowly and brushing himself off, he unfurled his wings again, more cautiously this time. He was already wearing the correct assemblage of metallic coils and wires; so he just stepped up onto the balcony and jumped...

"We've got the go-ahead for the fortress." Said a voice.

"Are you sure we can't make it any more... adventurous?" Asked another.

"We're using a Haemotube, same as normal, but bigger." The voice replied. "But this time, we are supplementing it with something... different."

"We must be the only civilisation in the universe who thinks steam-powered space travel is new and exciting..." a third voice grumbled.

The Due'He woldcraft is now docked above Midgard, a planet that still belonged to a faction of the UHE remants few days ago.

"Are there any discoveries of intrest?" asked Lord Shi'Nin to some "humans". They were important persons of that conquered UHE faction, now with their knowledge and bodies taken.

"Nothing new, my lord, but there is something very disturbing. This very body I had taken tells me new info on the Hizzari."

"Hizzari? I thought they were on the other side of the galaxy, and had been quiet since they had collapsed the UHE?" said Shi'Nin is astonishment.

"From this body I found that another UHE colony not far away had fallen to Hizzari 3 weeks ago."

"We must be prepared then. Order the repairing on fleet block 02 to be hastened! Raise the limit of the cloning of bodies, we'll need them if there's a war!"

Sharpia drove his talon into the creatrues abdomen, it let out a high pitched scream, he pulled out a large brown organ, So the things did have a liver! He laughed he had already gone through 3 kydnes and several feet of intestine but the damn thing was hiding behind the stomic. The creatures blood was everywhare on him, he would have to wash off soon. Oh but what fun it had been! He hadn't examinaed a race in atleast 100 cycles how he missed it. The creature was begging for its life and all that, they alwas seem to. He picked up and threw it back in the cage with the others.

He would get back to them soon enough.

"General Sharpia I bring a messege from the high consol" A short shadow said out loud, which surpirsed Sharpia, usualy shadow comunicate telapathicly, it was strange to hear someone's voice.

"Yes?" He responded his own voice a bit scratchy from lack of use.

"The high consol wish's to send envoy's to several race's to estabish contact and the posibilty of trade and military..." He paused trying to pronouce the rarly used word," Allience? The Tolneps, United Federation of planets, The Kingdom of Hauhin, the Due' and the azt'k. All of them young race's and all of them probebly fearfull of us. You are to be" He paused at the words in his messege" Kinnd and considdderaate. Try to establish a emmmbaassy." He had never heard of half the words in the list, the shadow must be young, he looked only 60 or 70 cycles old.

"Thank you." Sharpia said the messenger bowed and walked away.

The Redish hyperspace portal opened up and Sharpia's ship jumped in. He would head to the closest of the race's first The United Federation of Planets...And should arive withen two posts.

"A marvelous speech," said the Yonji Sinhondrea to his left," short sweet and to the point."

"Indeed," said Arqua with a hiss," I hope we can make our race powerful.  Maybe dominant."

"Perhaps," said the other Yonji Sinhondrea quietly," but you know our cutthroat politics, it can turn deadly."

"Then we will just have to strike our competitors first," pronounced Arqua.

Silrathi sipped his chilled wine with a grim smile.  In a few days he would destroy Arqua, poison most likely, it was harder to trace.  He savored the taste of wine in his mouth, then choked.  Something was in his wine.  He rolled it around his tounge a few times before his eyes widened.  He moved to spit it out, but before he could the room exploded with flame, starting from the device in his mouth.

Arqua looked up at the messenger," Aliens...here?!"

"It appears so Supreme Commander," said the messenger slave, like all of his cast, his elbow blades had been cut off at birth," They wish to speak with those in charge, currently that would be you."

"Indeed," said Arqua, rising from his chair and heading for the door," I will take the next shuttle up and meet the Defiant they are holding next to.  As for you, please take this message crystal to Councillor Intombe."

"Of course Supreme Commander," said the messenger slave, departing.  As Arqua strolled into the shuttle he could hear a distant explosion, yes his political enemies were dwindling.

The Convo as it was on AIM.

exatreide: I bring greatings from the Shadow people

GalaxyPAIV: Arqua nodded to the strange insectoid alien before him," And I bear the warm welcome of the Yonji Sinhondrea."

exatreide: The shadow looked at the bi ped creature, how strange it looked. "We wish to establish peace between our people so no hostilites may arive, for we have the Hizzari to fear."

GalaxyPAIV: Arqua snapped erect to his full height of nine feet at the mention of the Hizzari," I see your race also has heard of the fate of the UHE?"

exatreide: "Yes The young race was strong in its reach and so rapidly was it qaushed, We are waking from our isolation to begin expansion and Military preperations incase they should look this way."

GalaxyPAIV: "We are also seeking to expand in order to survive," said Arqua, elbow blades almost rubbing together behind his back," Your proposal for a treaty would be a worthwhile endeavour then, so that we would not cross each other's paths wrongly in expansion.'

exatreide: Sharpia clicked his tallons on the shadow ships interior table.

"Indeed but what of...." He paused how rarely the word had been used in miliena" Co...Operation against the Hizzari incase they should head this way

GalaxyPAIV: The Yonji SInhondrea cringed, it was inevitable this question would come up," It would be best to stand together than fall alone."

exatreide: "Indeed, Do not enter Sector 1118 to sectors 1134 we have these planed for expansion and do not wish to be disturbed in the process." The shadow ship did a passive scan of the enemy ship

GalaxyPAIV: "Very well," replied Arqua," I shall inform my people not to.  What of a nuetral meeting place in the event of a Hizzari threat?"

exatreide: The ship had shields,  energy weapons and torpedo's the race was young but it still could be a strong ally."Yes name the planet we can...Survive on most atmosphere's and gravitational fields."

GalaxyPAIV: Arqua considered his options," Dertana Seven," he said, referring to an inhabitable planet with a race of marsupials one star away," Would that be suitable?"

exatreide: Sharpia nodded" Yes that would be fine, My people would also like to establish a embasy on your world..for..Diplomatic purposes." He looked at the creature, oh what fun he would have taking one apart if he ever got the chance

GalaxyPAIV: Arqua smiled," Only if we get the same privledge for your own world."  He regarded the creature before him, a cunning predator of politics no doubt, war as well.

exatreide: Sharpia Cringed he hadnt expected this but  the young race would indeed need one, one away from the depth of the socity "Yes I am sure we can arange that, send a ship to 13.5.34.1.2 we will lead you to our planet from there."

GalaxyPAIV: Arqua nodded, noting the cringe.  A paranoid and xenophobic race, forced into diplomacy out of the need to survive...it reminded him of his own.  He spoke," When you leave take this ship with you, I will return to my planet."

exatreide: "Very well. A p...lesure meeting you and your race" He blended into the backround of the ship the active camoflaug kicking in.

GalaxyPAIV: Arqua filed away that ability of theirs for future reference and strolled out of the conference room and back to the shuttle.  The meeting had been interesting and fruitful.

The shadow ship opened a hyperspace portal the Federation ship fallowing it to set up a embasy, shadow ships would arive in system to do the same sometime in the next week. Maybe he could snatch one of the federation and...examine one...oh how fun that would be!

Grand Vizier Fyrextin sighed. He did it a lot. He was surrounded by people who could either have him killed with a nod or that he could kill with a wave. He was, he counted, exactly fourth in line from the throne, and had been for nearly two years now. He had been preparing for his position long before that of course. Like royalty, the position of Grand Vizier was hereditary. It brought with it money, esteem, power, trust and, Fyrextin reflected, brain-twisting frustration.

The position, by it's very nature, drove a man mad. Or woman. So much responsibility on one pair of shoulders, and all the time the constant threat that one tiny mistake would send him, screaming, into the nearest heamotube collection duct. The constant stress and the ever-present need to keep it hidden. The pressure to be there and get it right all the time; the all-consuming knowledge that if those vital few people were to just disappear, it would all go away... It was no wonder that Grand Viziers throughout the universe all possessed a similar penchant for spontaneous cackles and well-stocked poison cabinets.

Fyrextin stood in front of a full-length mirror, critically examining himself. It wasn't actually a law that he look presentable, as such. But Grand Viziers did their homework, and lurking at the back of his mind was the little scrap of a history book that had told him about his great great grandfather... The fact that the same history book had gone on to detail the man's twenty four attempts to poison the Queen at the time was mere coincidence. Fyrextin glared at himself.

He was still young, barely out of tertiary education. He was possibly the tallest Azt in the whole palace (Part of the language. Azt'k; the race as a whole. Azt; a smaller group. Like the difference between 'humans' and 'men'), which of course meant that horrible stoop in the King's presence... He wore padded black, in order to protect from poisoned darts. It made it impossible to tell whether he was thin or fat; and in truth Fyrextin liked that. Assassins never expected someone so busy as a Grand Vizier to be a muscular youth with eighteen ways of killing someone while temporarily blinded.

His wings were the only thing that gave him away. He exercised them regularly, and they towered above his head, huge and black. The aristocracy around him rarely exercised at all, as the King's belly clearly indicated. Their wings were almost always weak and shriveled, useless without vast contraptions that were almost wings themselves. Might as well use hanggilders. Fyrextin's could almost fly on their own. He sighed, folding them carefully into the special pouches build into his robes.

The last thing to examine was his face. Angular, pointed, and sunken. He shrugged, and bared his pointed teeth. Satisfied that his life was safe for the moment, Fyrextin Gwisher picked up the most recent plans for the Floating Fortress and strode away from the mirror. He passed several of his house slaves on the way out, shutting the door behind him.

He stood now on the huge stairway that circled Tyar Murno, the largest spire in Jurges, capital  of Yazar. Tyar Murno was a massive, glittering needle. It towered above all others, around it. Law prevented any buildings being taller than it was. Various large, ponderous ships circled around it, ferrying those aristocrats too lazy to fly, or even walk. Fyrextin rolled his eyes. How did they ever survive?

A sudden cramping in his gut told the Grand Vizier that he had forgotten something. He doubled over, desperately looking right and left. Nobody could be seen, and the next door away from his massive chambers was at least three circles down the stair. Fyrextin shuffled backwards all the same, into his own doorway. He couldn't hold it, he just had to let it out... He burst into peals of laughter.

Not merry laughter. Not cruel laughter. Not even inexplicable laughter. It was a desperate, wide-eyed, shrieking cacophony of screamed syllables. Fyrextin stood tall and threw his hands out, cackling and screeching with complete and utter insanity.

After a few minutes, the madness stopped. The laughter subsided with one final, ominous giggle. Fyrextin clutched at his torso, willing the pain of it away. As it faded, he stood up cautiously. Being a Grand Vizier was tough.

Queen Ranith tried really really hard to smile with genuine pleasure at her children. The result was something of a grimace, and she quickly settled for a calm smirk. She didn't really listen to anything they had to say, she didn't listen to anyone in this room anymore. Except Gwisher. She had to keep both eyes on him, treacherous bastard.

Prince Morgan and Princess Rowenna knew that their mother wasn't listening to them. They had known for some time now. They waited now with their father, for the plans to arrive.

The doors to the throne room were carefully opened, and the Grand Vizier crept through. Rowenna tried to hide a sneer; she hated the slimeball nearly as much as her mother did. He bowed as he approached.

"You wished to exzamine the plannz, yourr majesztiees?" Fyrextin articulated, bowing low. It was difficult for someone with his tall stature, and the Princess took some small pleasure out of that. Prince Morgan ignored it. The King snored. His son elbowed him in what will generously be refered to as his ribs. He snorted, and sat up.

"Cheese and no wine!" He burbled, dribbling. The Queen felt ill.

"Whaat do you wish to knoww?" Fyrextin asked, laying out the plans on a prepositioned table. His eyes caught the gleaming green of the Haemotube duct. He suppressed a shudder.

"Expense." Prince Morgan stated bluntly. The Grand Vizier pointed out a figure, and read it out loud. The Prince seemed satisfied.

"Construction." His sister said.

"Not a battlleship." Fyrextin explained, pushing the appropriate plans towards Rowenna. "Morre a spacze sztation. Rough rectangularr shape, no neeed forr strreamliningg you szee. Capablle ofv transzportingg szeverall szmaller shipsz inszide itszelf."

"Number of Haemotubes?" Prince Morgan asked suddenly.

"Szeven." Fyrextin answered. It was five more than any other ship in existence. The colour drained from Queen Ranith's face.

She had married into the royal family, was not royal blood. She had lived down below, seen the massive size of the Haemotubes. She knew how many people were needed just to fill one. She shivered.

"Wwhat about the, the thingy, weaponry?" King Paldret asked. Fyrextin was surprised. the King so rarely showed signs of independent thought nowadays.

"No morre powerrfull than that of ourr otherr larrge shipsz, yourr majesztyy." Fyrextin answered. "But therre willl naturallyy be morre ofv them..."

"No!" The King whined, "No! Big ship, big weapon! See to it, Fyrextin!"

The Grand Vizier was astonished. It was a tribute to his skills that he didn't even blink.

"Ofv courrse, yourr majesztyy." He drawled, bowing low. "I shalll szee to it, immediatelyyy."
