for some reason my computer has been having problems lately running the graphics on my 2 newest games (well 1 isnt' a new game but i recently bought it) which are GTA: vice city and splinter cell: pandora tomorrow... the problem is kind of strange... i wish i could post a screenshot but im actually on vacation right now.... i was hoping that if i got this up early someoen would eventually help by the time i was back....

what happens on GTA is i will be driving or running somewhere and then all at once every polygon on the map seems to stretch to unnatural proportions, they blow up so much that i cant even see the character anymore..... i did a temporary solve which was just alt+tab out of the game and then go back in... but i had to do this whenever it happened which if i was driving, it happened about every 2 or 3 blocks... (very annoying when in an intense chase or something).

in splinter cell it is a similar problem.... except i cant even do the alt tab thing.... if it gets too bad i have to save and exit and reload the game. in some areas i cant even look in one direction because the graphics will go hay-wire and i have to stop and reload again. I can only use the scope on the gun with night vision on because in normal vision the graphics arent running well so they make it so that the scope jumps around from the lag... *** btw i even have the graphics for splinter cell on low!!!***

but my computer should be able to run these with ease!!

i have:

AMD athlon 2800+

Geforce FX 5600

1024 mb ram 400

120GB hard drive (dunno if this even matters, i know i have oodles amount of space)

windows XP home edition

if you need to know anything else, tell me and ill find out what it is somehow, even if i have to wait till i get home next week.

one thing i thought of is maybe i just have a bunch of crud on my comp ( i haven't cleaned/defraged it in forever, i tried to again, but i completely forgot how! ( i feel like an idiot)).

my uncles computer is slightly better than mine, he has ATI graphics card instead of Geforce, and thats about it... and his runs GTA perfectly, i never tried splinter cell so i dont know about that.

any ideas of simple ways to fix it other than "you need a new computer, or newer parts" are appreciated, thanks

Hi slappy

If your using a joystick, unplug it, if this solves the problem, go to control options and choose classiic mode, this should fix the problem, if your not using a joystick, Open up the GTA Vice City directory, right-click gta-vc.exe, click properties, then click the Compatability tab, and put it on Windows 98 mode, even if your using XP.

Could you attach your dxdiag when you're back ?

Also, check for your video card drivers. Better yet, check if all your drivers are up to date (even your motherboard driver).

Nyar,

I will when i get back on thursday, friday at the latest

so that i can do it as soon as i can.... can you try and tell me where i can find these things, or at least an idea of where they are if you dont know exactly.

dunenewt,

i have no idea what those are...

shy,

ill try that when i get home, i didn't think about that thanks.

About your dxdiag, go to start => Run. There type dxdiag. A new screen will pop up. On the display and sound tab are buttons to run tests. Do run them. Once done, go to the first tab again. Click the Save all info button. Save it as a txt file and attach it to your reply.
