I tried joining you, but when I provide the details you posted in your first post, it says I also need to provide realm name and realm leader.. (weird thing is, that you need to press create realm, while you try to join one)..

Realms are different to empires.  Your realm is your own little patch of land in the empire.  Try again and put in your realm name and leader.

Build troops and buildings, explore land.  Have a look through their online guidde for ideas.

I've been exploring for an extensive amount of money, yet I have received only a small fraction of the land... Why?

It will also state how many acres your people are expecting (to explore). In other words, those acres will be added as time passes.

Another piece of advice, don't build all your farms and houses on plains. You may run out of plains very quickly, which withold you from building any other buildings that require just plains. Farms and houses can be build on any soil.
