Gobalopper Posted February 29, 2004 Posted February 29, 2004 I'm interested in what other people think about a new way to banning people? It wouldn't replace the old way and we would still ban people for breaking the rules. The basic idea is that people would be able to vote on who they would like to see banned. If someone reaches a certain percent of the active posters then they would be banned until they go below the limit. I don't know what that limit would be but it would be fairly high to prevent abuse.Anyway, I would like to see what other people think of the idea. This would allow the atmosphere to be a little more pleasant, if there is someone posting here who absolutely annoys almost everyone it doesn't make much sense to me for them to stay.
GhostHunter Posted February 29, 2004 Posted February 29, 2004 It in theory is a good idea, but there's a few flaws. To begin with, say I made a topic about Abortion and it ticked Edric off. Edric out of anger might get a few other posters to go against me, and then others might hate the topic to begin with and everyone would start voting me out for one topic I posted; doesn't exactly seem fair to me.
Gobalopper Posted February 29, 2004 Author Posted February 29, 2004 You really think Edric could convince 75% of the people here to ban you permanently for that? Personally I find it hard to believe that 75% or even 50% would do it.
GhostHunter Posted February 29, 2004 Posted February 29, 2004 If it pissed enough people off for a few days or so, yes, I do believe it could.
exatreide Posted February 29, 2004 Posted February 29, 2004 What do you mean make it a vote? you already have a vote for who gets banned in the landsrrad.
Inoculator9 Posted February 29, 2004 Posted February 29, 2004 No we don't Ex, and that was bullshit even when you first started peddling it.I say it sounds good Gob. I would recommend that each candidate for banning be required to get your approval for voting, or as Ghost said, arbitrary bannings could occur... however unlikely that is ;)
Gobalopper Posted February 29, 2004 Author Posted February 29, 2004 Of course, I'm not going to ban someone I feel is just being kicked out for a onetime event. It would be someone like Nav or lowzeewee who are borderline posters, basically trolls, who may not break any set rule but piss everyone off.
Inoculator9 Posted February 29, 2004 Posted February 29, 2004 Ok, good. I don't want to develop a borderline personality disorder and get banned or anything ;)
Navaros Posted February 29, 2004 Posted February 29, 2004 Of course, I'm not going to ban someone I feel is just being kicked out for a onetime event. It would be someone like Nav or lowzeewee who are borderline posters, basically trolls, who may not break any set rule but piss everyone off.troll - wtf? i have contributed more useful game-winning advice for Emperor than any other single poster here ever has. trolls are people who have NO INTEREST in the subject matter at hand and who just post OFFTOPIC crap all the time.i have a vested interest in Emperor and my posts are almost-always totally ON-TOPIC. therefore there is no possible way i can be considered a troll.
Inoculator9 Posted February 29, 2004 Posted February 29, 2004 This is like that great joke:"I'm breaking up with you.""That's not acceptable.""What?""We're not breaking up.""You don't have a choice!"Etc...
Seal89999 Posted February 29, 2004 Posted February 29, 2004 trolls are people who have NO INTEREST in the subject matter at hand and who just post OFFTOPIC crap all the time.Well maybe you have intrest in the subject matter but you post offtopic crap all the time.....Personally Gob I think that it sounds like a good idea. People that piss the majority of the community off do not belong and should therefore be outed. It would make tension and conflict go down massively. For example, how many like all hands down flame wars went on when nav was banned.....not many that I can recall.....and then suprise nav comes back, sais a few words to get everybody pissed again and badabing there we go another thread closed because of another flame war. Perfectly valid topics ruined because of a selfish jerk who wants attention. I say Yes Yes to the new plan.My only suggestion might be that it is not a forever ban insted more of a very long period of time as in lets say 6 to 12 months....When the ban is expired if the person still wants to they can come back and post again except there is a catch. For lets say a month that person is in a conditional membership period (sorta like a parole). Where there account has some increased restrictions. And if the person goes back to his/her old ways he is ejected again and sent back to his/her ban....
Inoculator9 Posted February 29, 2004 Posted February 29, 2004 I'd say that each probationary member should have increased restrictions during that initial month of return and observation/scrutiny so to speak.
Seal89999 Posted February 29, 2004 Posted February 29, 2004 Sounds about right.....im for that aswell.
Navaros Posted February 29, 2004 Posted February 29, 2004 notice how this has already turned into a "blame Nav for everything" thread.if i piss people off then it is because they have done things to me that piss me off - the same things that would piss any one of YOU guys off if you were the one being slandered/flamed incessantly like i get from them all the time i merely defend myself.
Seal89999 Posted February 29, 2004 Posted February 29, 2004 Nav just stop....Stop telling us how you are god at emperor and how you have done so much for us and giving yourself too much credit alltogether....Nobody needs this now, dont ruin this thread aswell, something important has to be determined and all you are doing is trying to start a conflict to deviate from the topic athand because if this goes through its your ass on the line and you will be the first one booted.......For once just drop it and take your lemons....
Navaros Posted February 29, 2004 Posted February 29, 2004 Nav just stop....Stop telling us how you are god at emperor and how you have done so much for us and giving yourself too much credit alltogether....Nobody needs this now, dont ruin this thread aswell, something important has to be determined and all you are doing is trying to start a conflict to deviate from the topic athand which can get you banned in the firstplace...For once just drop it and take your lemons....why should i stop defending myself? take this thread for example. you called me a selfish jerk. i am not selfish. i am not a jerk. yet "since it's Nav" who you're slandering - a Mod will do nothing about that. your flaming comments to me are "fine and dandy" - because your name is not Nav.yet when i respond to your flaming comments, "Nav is out of line"this one example is a micro-cosm of my entire experience of Fed2k. i may be the focal point of many issues, but that's not because i am the one who *caused* them
Seal89999 Posted February 29, 2004 Posted February 29, 2004 Personally I dont care if you called yourself dooodledandy......you would still be a problem that needed to be delt with. Now stop trying to change the topic and get Gob to come in and break it up and hope he forgets about this whole thing...everybody is onto your plan, its not gonna work so I say again....Drop it and take your lemons......Dont come back and tell us again how the mods are corrupt and how you are mistreated and start justifying yourself, we have heard it and you dont need to act like a broken record.....
SurlyPIG Posted February 29, 2004 Posted February 29, 2004 I don't think a vote ban system is necessary.
Navaros Posted February 29, 2004 Posted February 29, 2004 Sard Elite - i don't care how many times you tell me to STFU.the answer i give you is: HELL NO.
Seal89999 Posted February 29, 2004 Posted February 29, 2004 Navaros I am worth so much more to this community than you will ever be....and im pretty sure that I have the community backing me on that one aswell..And was I flaming you, no I was telling you to stop whining and trying to change things that are beyond your power. And what did I tell you, there he goes again with his same constant complaints, " my name is not popular thats why people flame me"..Nav it dosent matter what your name is people flame you because you act like YOU are superior to everybody and that you are so important to us all. Well your really not....And by posting back and forth like this you are winning because you are getting the thread to derail and go way off topic. So I have said what I have to say, everybody agrees with me and furthermore there is nothing more to say because everybody already knows who you are and what you are, most importantly Gob.So im gonna quit, and let you ramble on some more and let you add gasoline to the fire that your in......

Gobalopper Posted February 29, 2004 Author Posted February 29, 2004 This may be my site but it doesn't make much sense to me that people get pissed off because of a troll. As I said earlier its still my discretion as to whether to ban someone, this is just another method to help make that decision.
SurlyPIG Posted February 29, 2004 Posted February 29, 2004 I see what you mean. Obviously you would deal with violations of the rules, but perhaps polls that as something like "Is this member too distruptive to post here?" would be a good idea. I think you did that last time you banned Nav.
alchemi2 Posted February 29, 2004 Posted February 29, 2004 Banning should always be the final option as surely to be a good forum for discussion you must allow freedom of speech.sard elite!IMO many people do flame Nav needlessly and often in irrelevant topics, so it is unfair to just bash him.YES he does often annoy with his written style but members should stick to the topic and around it or make a new thread. If his topic is BS then post your reasons and leave don't just go in and flame as many do and admit they do.Surely the mods should remove all flames, especially when the post admits that all there doing. If a vote was taken would it be 75% of active membership or total membership and how would You decided who is active.IE what structure are you suggesting. :-
