I've just heard a report on the Russian TV channel, that Osama bin Laden has been captured somewhere on the Iranian border. I don't know all the facts but that is what they said. Probably more coming up very soon...

Yeah I saw it on CNN just now, they were saying that 'We think we're close, unfortunately rumors this morning were misinformed of his capture'.

I hope this is just my government denying it so they can spring it later at a more prime time opportunity.

Iran`s state radio says Osama bin Laden captured

(Adds confirmation)

Tehran, Feb 28, IRNA -- Iran`s state radio has quoted an informed

source as saying that Osama bin Laden had been captured in a tribal

region in Pakistan.

The radio`s external service, broadcast in Pushtun, said US

Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld`s trip to Pakistan on Thursday

had been made in connection with the capture.

The radio said, "The capture of the al-Qaeda leader has been made

sometime before, but (US President George W.) Bush is intending to

announce it when the American presidential election is held."

Contacted by IRNA, an IRIB announcer at the Pusthtun service,

confirmed the news, which he said, they had got from a `very reliable

source` in Peshawar, Pakistan.

"Osama bin Laden has been arrested a long time ago, but (US

President George W.) Bush is intending to use it for propaganda

maneuvering in the presidential election," he said.

Osama`s head on a platter is believed to be a big boost to Bush`s

presidential chances, which are increasingly being eclipsed by

Democratic presidential front-runner John Kerry.

The Saudi-born dissident is accused of masterminding the September

11, 2001 attacks on American landmarks in New York and Washington.

Visiting Kabul on Thursday, Rumsfeld said he believes Osama will

be caught, but has no idea when.

Yeps. That's probably it. Or, they're waiting for the US to grab him. You know, they could earn some respect from the Americans if they let them have the honor.

i don't think they really caught him because Bush would be in BIG trouble if they had caught him and he didn't make that info public right away

Im tending to see it that way aswell....thats something that would be very big news and would be out as soon as the press got wind of it.

Im thinking this is one of those large rumors that people want to believe but dosent really add up.

Hell I want it to be true but things arnt going like it did......

I think Gobalopper is pretty much right; they've probably encircling whatever mountain base bin Laden is using. Whenever Pakistani forces push bin Laden out, or whenever bin Laden decides to join a raid (unlikely, that kidney of his) across the border into Afghanistan, the US will strike like a gracefully poised leopard. Bin Laden, unless he can run really fast (even more unlikely, have you ever seen a man in need of dialysis run for his life?), probably wouldn't have a chance. So, the moment he steps foot in Afghanistan, the US probably has him. Unless Musharraf would like to get him, I really don't see why he wouldn't, he has been pretty supportive of US actions.

Has nobody thought of the possibility that he might commit suicide in the hope of becoming a martyr? If it was certain he was going to be caught it would be an attractive option.

I think in an interview once he said he wanted to die a martyr. So it's always a possiblity.

You also have to think: what will happen if he is captured/killed? I think things will just get worse - there's the whole "we must avenge Bin Laden by destroying America" etc. Just one small excuse is all that will be needed for another strike... I'm just glad I'm now living somewhere that's unlikely to be considered a target.
