I thought I'd wait until someone else posted... You already know I like Pratchett.

Is it just me, or is his work slightly different now that he has a new illustrator? It seems... more serious.

Twoflower and his inn-sewer-ants polly-see's.  Hee hee. :P  Yes, that's one of my favouite happenings in the Colour of Magic.  As to whether I think Terry's work has become more serious now that Josh Kirby has passed away... well, not really.  It's true that Night Watch was a lot more serious than most Discworld books, but I think that's because it was more of a history book... it told the tale of Vimes and his past, and what MIGHT have happened.  He has books like that sometimes.

Time also seems to be a popular theme for Terry.  Thief of Time was not the first novel to have the History Monks in it, and if you read some of the other books just before Night Watch, then you will see that Terry just goes through different phases when writing Discworld novels.  Paul Kidby is a great cover artist as well, and though he won't COMPLETELY replace Josh Kirby in my heart, he is the next best thing.

To sum it all up, Pratchett has lots more humour to come... but he tends to have one or two books with more subtle humour in it every now and then.  SO EVERYONE READ DISCWORLD!!

Approaching 30 books. Pratchett is a fantastic writer (but a very boring person) and the Discworld series is the single best series I've read (and longest too).
