how do i know?

i am still a newbie to online emporer,i get my a55ed kicked nearly everytime.after visiting this site i realise theres all different patches that change the aspect of your house.

surely there could be a main patch so we can all have at least the option of 'modding'{is that the phrase}.

Doesn't both sides need the same patches in order to play each other? (otherwise you can't connect to them?)

i dunno,all i know is you cant play online without the update.

but there are posts mentioning health turrets and colour changes etc.

Ed, I doubt users can have different files used in the same combat. If that would be true, I think you would get a mismatch...

All you need Edsbrick is a password and nick combo,then go on wol, the 1.06 patch will automatically be downloaded when you play a multiplayer game.

If you install any mods you can't play online.

welcome ed... dont be discouraged by losing alot... the learning curve of emperor is kinda steep... and it will take you awhile to learn the ropes.  Main thing you need to focus  on is what the different unit's strength's and weakness's are.  That way you dont try to attack a minotaur with 20 light infantry.

first. it's the 1.09 patch, not the 1.06 patch ;)

second, different versions of emperor that would affect the gameplay would be impossible. Only mods like color changes, model changes or speech changes would be possible, however it wouldn't affect the game for the players in any way, except that it might look/sound a little different for the player who has that mod. The other player however would see it just as he does as always... I mean, you can make a mongoose look like a minotaur, but it wouldn't affect anything for the other player, he will just see it as a mongoose and kill it like one.

Yeah I know it's the 1.09 patch, I'm just a bit busy trying to get a network working, that's all.

No, they do change multiplayer too. But for 2 players to fight each other, both need the same patch version. So a player with the 1.09 version cannot play with the 1.06 version. However someone with the 1.09 version can play another person with the 1.09 version of ebfd. That is also why updating for multiplay on internet is required, so that everyone has the same version.
