Question about scanning disk and defraging

For some reason the comp won't scan disk or defrag, some pogram I can't find keeps running in the background, making it start over again. Any suggestions?

You should probably try your scandisk when you boot your computer (not sure how, as I dont know your OS)

Did you try closing ALL backround applications then try to scandisk?

Windows 98. Yes, I shut down everything I thought, but it still keeps restarting.

Press [ctrl]-[alt]-[delete] once. All what's running there, except for Systray & Explorer should be stopped.

Just virus scan your computer, or make the virus not start when you turn your computer on with regcleaner.

he meant the virus scanner, not the virus hahah. Yeah virus scanners can be a huge pain in the ass. If your defrag restarts, it means that you there's a process on your comp busy (even moving your mouse will make the defrag to restart on my comp as far as i can remember)
