I want to format my C Drive, saved everything onto disks, got my Windows XP 2002 Home Edition OS disk right here...

I went to command

Typed Format C and got:

"Format cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Format may run if this voulme is dismounted first. ALL OPENED HANDLES TO THIS VOLUME WOULD THEN BE INVALID. Would you like to force a dismount on this volume? <Y/N> Y Cannot lock the drive. The volume is still in use.

Any ideas?

I think you can download them from Microsofts website. Sometimes your Windows box will come with a boot disk, although I don't think XP does. If you have any old boot disks from say Windows 98 that will work too. All you need is something that will get you to the command line.

Uhh...I sort of accidently uh...Reformated after I remembered I didn't have my CD for my Geforce any longer? Any ideas because now Windows isn't detecting it. Installed my Creative Labs stuff just the card is the issue...

And when I scroll down the page it flickers rather then moving smoothly, or is that a side-effect of 'no' graphics card?

If you can see the screen then you have some kind of graphics card drivers installed. Probably just the generic windows SVGA driver which should work for any video card. You need to download the latest drivers from the NVidia website. That will fix your video settings most likely.

Go Nvidia's website and download the drivers...

While we're at it...

You can find a very good boot cd here.

It has many diagnostic tools, aswell as partitioning (and thus formatting) software.

It's way better than the normal boot floppy I used until a few months ago, and it boots up much quicker than a floppy.

heheh now i have a little problem of my own. My comp is f*cked up and i only want to remove windows xp.. now how do i do THAT. I created a bootdisk with win98 from the comp downstairs, but since i have a NTFS system on my comp, the bootdisk won't work properly (as it can't recognise the data etc.) And from inside windows you ofcourse cannot delete it. How the hell do i delete just my windows now. When i boot up with winxp cd, i get the option ot make another winxp install, BUT i fear this will give problems as i will then have 2 winxp's, and to make it worse, they would be on 1 partition.. I think that this would give some conflicts. Anyone know how i delete my winxp? (is there a bootdisk that brings me to dos prompt, that DOES support NTFS?)

No, and playlists are only about 32kb because they redirect you to the files and start them all up at once, or whatever you selected. And Andrew; no, it isn't my Windows Directory...Besides, I don't think Windows freshly-installed could possibly use 19 gigs...

Ok, I am really scared now...really!!!!

You just answered my question that I wasn't going to bother asking.....WTF???

How you know that????? how?!?!?

WTF??

I never posted in this thread before!!!!wth??

I was going to ask you that, but then looked at my own winxp folder which is only 1 gb or so, and only 11gb is being used on my hard drive...

Please somehow answer how you knew what I was going to ask but never did, and then refer to me asking it.

(I don't remember posting and deleteing a post, unless I subconciuosly did post and someone else deleted it.)

:(

oh wait, maybe you were referring to flameweaver?

Also I thought the same thing you did about newly installed windows cant take up that much room. (sorry if I went out of line with this post)

he probably forgot the name who posted it and blamed it all on you ;)

but honestly, it uses 19 gig, but there's only winxp on your disk? What if you select all programs on your disk, right click and check properties, does it show the total size is 19 gig?

Err...I reformatted and installed Windows and it's saying I'm using 19 gigs of space when the only thing I've done is upload my media files. ???

How did you format (how did you boot up) ? Via floppy ?
