WOL connection problems DX 9.0. bug with XP

I was reading a thread by Doc about problems ME users are having with DX 9.0 internet connection sharing, it seems it rejects connections to other users in certain circumstances.

This sounds really familiar doesn't it ?

Could this be the common link to the problems Emp players are having connecting with each other ?

Will all online players of EMP please post if they have DX 9.0.installed on their system and which Operating system they are running, i.e. Win 98,ME,XP,2K.

Maybe it's a bug in XP and DX9.0 or maybe just DX 9:0

What do you guys think ?

I have ME, and have tried it today with directx 8 and 9 and had no luck, I think it's FUBAR'd for good :(

I think both players have to have DX 8 for it to work.

I don't know for sure though.

Also I read an article on the net that said that installing DX 9.0 after Emperor is already installed causes some registry entries to be blitzed.

What exactly they didn't say unfortunately.

If that is the cause re-installing Emperor might fix the problem. Also if everyone has the same version of DirectX would the problem go away? I can see a problem between some people using DX8 and DX9 but there shouldn't be a problem between people using the same version.

though tdirectX9.0 A had a few problems in it causing incompatebilety or crashes sometimes ?

I think the first version of DX9 had those sort of problems but it should be fixed in the latest release.

If like me others downloaded the latest DX version from Microsoft then it is DX 9.0 B, which is a beta version and it also states that it is still being tested and to download it and install it, is at the users own risk , blah blah blah, the usual MS disclaimer.

yep, the B one is supposed to be more stable. A crashed a few time with me when it just was released.

And they give that disclaimer with every thing. Even the Alpha versions ready for consumer purchase.. .

The different versions of directx on different machines shouldn't cause any problems. However, the new 9.0x release has given quiet a few problems.

Bad thing is, if you want to go back to 8, you'll need to re-install Windows. There might be tricks to degrade without re-installing Windows, but I haven't encountered a reliable one yet..

Hey Atomic what version do you have cause i know me and u have tryed to connect many times i have version 8.1 so if u have the same then we know that is not the problem. :)

I have contacted EA and they are looking into the problem. I will post a message as soon as I hear back from them. Maybe it would help if more people would call EA and ask for help. (650) 628-1905 option 4

To ring EA would cost me a fortune, but i'm very happy to know that someone actually contacted them, instead of just talking about it !

I still havn't heard from EA's Rep Daniel.B, but as soon as I do, rest assured I will tell everybody ! lol ;D
