Taking along time to load a page in Internet Explorer ?

I found a strange bug in Windows XP, after deleting cookies and Temporary files in Internet Explorer , I found that it took ages to load a page in IE, or to download my E-mails from my mail server.

After alot of searching I discovered that Windows had put a different password in my dial up connection !

After I deleted this and re.entered the correct password,I then exited IE and re.started it.

Problem solved.

If anyone else has had similar experiences it might help others if you post them here in this thread.

To Gryphon: maybe this is what's causing your problem too ? ;)

don't know what is causing mine. . although it seems to be restricted to a few selectieve pages only. Think it's a scripting thing or something like that. Didn't get a change to install Opera and see if the result is the same or not. :-[

Gon'na do that some where today though if I get the time. :)

All temporary files are deleted periodically on my computer, and I don't use any passwords to connect to the internet at this time. The only dial up connection that I have are a few SSH ones at hits time, non of them active to get online though. . . .

do you have all the plugin installed? Sounds strange yeah, or otherwise check your connection for security options. As they generally also require more datastream. Just a guess though, have no real other idea

Security was the first thing I have checked. [ paranoide as always ]. First I thought it was the new flaw in IE that allows to run arbituary code on it. Although the websites open are ones I thrust. And being behind my linux firewall and DMZ. The local firewall and virusscanner couldn't find anything.

I am still doubting about plugins myself. Java has been updated, others might not be I still need to check most of them.

I found out today what was causing this on my pc, it was my agp graphics card geforce4mx440 agp 128Mb,causing my system instability.

I have now installed the same card but a PCI version with 64 Mb of memory.

Now my pages load instantaneously and furthermore I can now play the Generals C&C demo !!!

still not shure what was causing it in my case. Although a cracked IE is still there on my list. . and I wasn't that found of IE to start with. . . anyways .. fully back to Linux now so will be a while before I have any problems again. . . ;)

I don't know whether it's my AGP slot or the card, I took the card back to my pc shop this morning, they tested it and said the fan was blocked with dust ???

It's only 4 weeks old.

So I guess i'll have to re-install it and see.

The only reason I bought an AGP card was because my MOBO only has two PCI slots, and I have a Soundblaster Live card, and a TV tuner card.

At the moment the TV tuner card is out of my pc.

So I don't know what to do now really , apart from buying a decent pc. :-[

hmm, usually it's good to use your agp slot as it is faster than pci, and specially reserved for graphix cards. But if it doesn't work well, place it in a pci slot, or get another Mobo

you can't .. .

looks at Flameweaver. . . . what the h*** where you thinking about. . . have you been smoking grass again ? ???

noo, my friend. I was referring to the voodoo5 for instance, that you can buy in 2 versions, a pci AND an agp version. And i might be wrong, but i think there are even pci to agp converters, so you can put that converter in a pci slot, stick your agp card in it and still enjoy reasonable graphix card power, though it ain't as good as normal agp (i might be completely wrong here though, but i'm sure about the voodoo 5 thing)

and yes i do smoke grass thank you...

The problem with pci cards is that they share the bandwidth between them.

If you have many pci cards installed, you might have a hard time using a pci graphic card. Furthermore, agp is not just slightly faster, It's very much faster.

If there are agp->pci converters out there somewhere, the card using it will be degraded to pci speed, and thus the extra money you paid for getting an agp card instead of a lousy pci card are thrown out of the window.

I have my agp card back in, but why would deleting the mem dmp speed up loading pages. What's that got to do with my Graphics card?

I only have one other PCI card, Sound blaster live.

How do I find out if my MOBO uses an agp to pci adapter, that would interest me greatly.

I suspect that , that could be the problem I'm having with my pc.

Please do tell more ;)

I very, very strongly doubt that your computer has such a converter installed.

If you can mount an agp card on your motherboard, the chances that you have a real agp slot are astronomical.

How fast this agp port is, is up to your motherboard. How old is it?

Btw, all agp cards are backwards compatible, which means that an agp8 card will work on all previous agp versions, just with a small decrease in speed.

If your card does not work on your computer, it might be a conflict between components, not that the card is bad itself.

As to why the removing of the mem dmp speeded up the loading of your pages, it might have been something in it that your browser used lots of processing power on.

Nothing in Windows uses a *.DMP file nor can de decypher it for local use. . . .

Could be your page file located on the same disk run low on memory. . .
