Embelishment is a common practice among writers, and I did not edit any pertinent information. You are merely attempting to detract from my points.

And again, you really have no idea how big the jumps in time you're making are.

Posted

sure, writers embellish stories, but your only adding to my side of the argument, which is "the trojan war is only a story", and you are modifying your posts, so my questions arent relevant to your responces. You never gave me any specific dates to begin with.

I didn't modify anything pertanent! I only added to my posts!

And embellishment is simple. In Homer's time the religion that prevailed was that of the Gods, so he used that to explain certain events. Just like Christian writers pop God's will into it.

None of your questions have made any sense so far, and they made even less sense before I ADDED to my posts.

Nope, sorry. I removed a single phrase about Homer, after that it was all additions. I didn't become Dune Editing Staff, get on the Landsraad, Editing Team, and end up moderating by lying about how I modify my posts.

ahg... this is going back to square one, LIKE I SAID all you have is a city and some other artifacts, and a poem, where do you come to the conclussion that the trojan war(as stated in the poem) ever happend

I'd like to get the facts straight, The trojan war did happen but no one knows the scale of it, or who fought who and who won, the city couldve been abandoned after time, and taken apart for trade for all we know, no one knows the year of the war or the year homer wrote the poem

IT was probably fought between the Trojans and greeks, because there are several places that talk about either the city of troy, or another name that matches descriptions of Troy.

And there are other Greek stories of the trojan war than just Homers story.

we know "troy" was involved but we dont know of the attacker that well, i would also like to mention that the other writtings are set in a different time during the trojan war, like someone was trying to make up for the poems between- before the iliad, after the iliad, b4 the odyssey and after the odyssey...

oh, thats what I get for coming in the middle of a convo..lol

I believe that the poems are reliable as far as the fact that the war happened, and troy existed, but not anything more than that.

Catch Helen of Troy on CH (Channel 19 in Ottawa) tonight at 9PM.

And my understanding was always that there was a Trojan War. Of course, the Gods and Heroes were most likely made up or blown out of proportion.

Oh, and for the record, there were nine cities of Troy. It is believed that the war took place around the seventh incarnation of the city. The others were destroyed by earthquakes (The wrath of Poseidon!) and other things of that nature (no pun intended).

Ha ha ha...

I don't post for a day and another Trojan War occurs...

QUITE HUMOROUS!!!

Too bad, no one ever mentioned that Greek weapons were found in the dig of Troy or that Agamennon actually did exist.
