Let's make a compilation of all the maps which are next-to impossible to Win on if you happen to start at the wrong position, or if they are disgustingly unfair in other ways.

Umm there are lots of maps that give atreides players advantages too like sampa, fisher's plain, and even divided country.

And the spice does run out in canyon channel for all spots - it just takes longer for the bottom spot but that's ok 'cause the bottom spot has to defend his spice, but in the top left spot you can just move your units to the choke point (and on the rocks of either side) and your spice is totally protected - how fair would that be?

But yeah the aprit chard bug is very annoying.  The player on the bottom has a HUGE disadvantage in games that last more than 5 minutes.

on canyon channel i have the opposite of Nav's problem.  I have a harder time on the bottom.  If i'm on the top i use the choke point (placing kinjhal on the tip of the right land mass and you can't run them over

Anyways, i have a harder time on the bottom cause in the beginning of the game i'm faster than most atrietes, and hark players don't expect that, so by 5 minutes i already got fed's, and they defend harvestors allright.   Then i got air drones, and all his stuff is up between us so the drones whip butt even with AA troops.   But if i'm on the bottom, then the hark player camps with missle and infantry, i can't get minos there fast enough cause they have to go around every time the hark guy moves up, then back, then up, etc.  If i camp a mino on the tip of my land mass they go around the other way (over the right land mass). if i move minos to both sides of the land mass they just use thier missle tanks and that a waste of a mino.  So i use minos with feds guarding, but that still leaves him room to get AA troops by me.

If i use fed's and minos in the field they move up and kill me till i get the upper hand then they retreat to the choke which has missle tanks on top of the land masses.  Or they just use cutters and missle tanks (which most use anyways). So i'm left with worms, which take forever to call on that map.  And if the worms DO call, their forces are on the middle map, their harvestors are on the left side (by now) so i have to pick, loose my caryalls, or take out their harvestors without hitting mine, ugh.

IF i try to move minos to THEIR spice field it takes too long cause i go down my land mass, then up and down another before getting there, whereas hark can defend that spice in less than a minute

So about the only way i can win on bottom with that map is to be a better player, if i'm playing someone as good as or better than me i'm screwed

How could I forget:

To Nimila -  The person who starts on the Bottom-Right gets shafted right away, because he has less than one third (approximately) of the amount of rock to build upon as his opponent does, and as if that were not bad enough, after 5 minutes most of the harvesters belonging to the guy in the Bottom-Right will be in his enemy's spice field, which is much, *much* easier for the enemy in Top-Left to access and needless to say, nearly impossible for the player who starts on the Bottom-Right to defend.

A bad point in Fishers Plain:

When your at the northeast of the map as starter location, you harvesters go automatically to the spice field next to the base in the far East. They can easily remove your harvester then...

the last time i played someone on canyon channel frodo was a brilliant game i only built about 3 minos in 40 minutes of the  game and he was hark i simply used inf, bike, mong's, sard, and fremen  coz as u say minos r to slow i tottally controlled the middle and after the 40 minute mark i built a fleet of adv. carryalls then started building minos  and gave 1 adv to each mino then ferryed them round the map easy, the guys exact words were (i belive) "wow i never seen an atr player use so many uints" (he was a top 10 player)

no map is impossible to win on regardless of ur position some are nearly impossible IF u play the same as for some other maps and 1 exception would be the 1st map (aptrid chard?) but on this as the bottom spot u can win still u simply need to send all ur units up and then turret and defend the right hand side of ur base at the bottom this is a really unfair map but still not impossible to win on by any means

if ur just gonna go drone drone drone mino mino mino mino yeah there r some maps u will never win on if u learn anything is possible.....

i agree, i didn't mean to say that canyon channel is impossible if on the bottom.  I didn't think i said that?? anyways, what you said about not using alot of minos is the only way i've ever won also, i used fed's, snipers, mongooses, and a few minos, minos came in after i took the spice field.  BUt if your playin someone real good you gotta do ALOT of manuvering, either that or your mongooses are toast cause infantry and cutters kill them so easyily.  Thats why i used the fed's and snipers

true it does take a lot of manuvering esp to make sure hughe bunches of inf don't get mown down by buzz but most the time the sheer shock of an atr army the same size as a massive hark rush army is enough to fluster them into mistakes ;D

And about Fishers Plain. The Harvesters(when they are new) they go to the enemy spice field. And it is irritating to say each time that they have to harvest somewhere else...

how does it work on non-spice maps?  Does every one get the $$ at the same time or how does it work the house planet has the advantage?  I dislike non-spice maps; the maps themselves are cool dont get me wrong... I guess I just cant budget my $$ ::) ;D

You get it on the same time, and all the same quantity. Hmm I like sometimes the non-spice maps, they are nice when you got bored of Arrakis :)

nav, it is all in the luck of the draw whether a map is "unfair" or not. Like in real war the strategic positions will not always be equal. But, since it's only a game, it's nice to make it as fair as possibly. I havn't played emp for...oh...let's see...about 6 weeks. So I forget what the maps are called so I can't really specify any that would be considered unfair, although i can think of some. Anyway, nice to see all you guys.  ;D
