  1. my current personal favourites: 1) A BEAUTIFUL MIND - amazing story of an intellectual greatness... :) 2) AKIRA - possibly the best animated movie/story ever! 8) 3) CONTACT - based on one of the best sci-fi novels ever written (by Carl Sagan). 4) FEAR & LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS - wacky and fun film... :D 5) PULP FICTION - excellent, humourous dialogue by one of the best modern-day directors around...
  2. nav, yes i remember u asking them the question. and yes, i remember them agreeing. But you have to look at the situation (in today's game) sensibly. They were practically wiped out. If they had quit 5 minutes earlier, then I would have been slightly bothered... and more bothered if they had agreed with 'my rules' before starting a game. But come on nav, they quit literally 30 seconds before their **completey-last-unit** death, in a game that lasted over 30 minutes. Surely you could overlook the rule just ever so slightly in this given case?? :-
  3. i remember that game this afternoon. As far as I am concerned, jura777's base was almost completely wiped out when he quit - and if he had stayed until the absolute end, he would have only had a few harvs and stray troops left.. so i have no problems with that given situation. chiki13 stayed on and only had a small base on the top corner of the map. (about 6 main buildings.. half a dozen kobras and a couple of chem troops) He quit when nav and I destroyed about half of his base. The game would have ended within the next minute if he had stayed... so, again, the situation didn't bother me. But they could have had the courtesy of saying 'gg' or 'bye'.. or something before qutting. Personally, it think it was ok for them to quit during that game. I don't know what they are like usually, as i've only played them once.
  4. i was walking along charing cross road on Sat 3rd, and saw a long queue for HIM at the Astoria.
  5. Now thats something I agree with, Nav.
  6. Nav... didn't you critise QM settings yourself when you started Emp as a newbie? ::)
  7. cool.. will he be coming back to emp? i'll look out for him
  8. I have a few things to say in response to Arohk's last post, as well as most other posts in this topic: 1) If it ain't a bug being exploited, then its fair and square. OK, there is the annoying harvest pathfinding issue... but remember this applies to both players, so overall its still fair. 2) Guild are powerful units... thats why they cost so much - and remember, both players have the choice to use Guild as a subhouse ;) 3) IX are a good subhouse too... and, surprise surprise, BOTH players have the option to select them as a subhouse ;) 4) Engineers.... now, why on earth would WW put Engineers into the game if we're not allowed to use them to capture buildings? .. ;) A lot of players whine and fume when they've been engie dropped... well, surprise surprise, you actually have to defend your base as well ;) When I play, I spend a small proportion of my economy on perimeter/base defense - the proportion I spend depends on the likelyhood of an enemy engie/unit drop... therefore, i have to keep scouting to check his/her base for clues of engineers/apcs/carryalls, etc and manage my base/defense accordingly. This is part of the game - and if you can't multi-task effectively to ensure your survival, then you're obviously less skilled than your opponent. 5) Atreides are the best house for defense. If an opponent rushes you early game, build a machinegun turret and loads of sandbikes. Also, keep your starting Mino well protected. There you would have a solid early defense... If anyone had heard of d3kdragon, he was the reputed master of atreides.. and at his time, was able to hold off even the best of rushes. In the good old days when the ladder was active and full of the best players, there was no time to play nicely or with mercy.... an opportunity was an opportunity - if its in the game, and not a bug exploited, then its legal... and adds to the game's multi-dimensional fun.
  9. Thats right. Afterall thats what IX infiltrators are for - to penetrate an opponents base without them noticing and destroying key targets. You can stop IX Infiltrators by placing scouts on the ramps/entrances around your base, together with some units to destroy the pesky robots once they're revealed.
  10. Hello ppl. I used to play EBFD loads when it was released - i thought the game was fantastic in every way.. still do. The monthly tourney ladder was kind of exciting and with so many excellent players (d3kdragon, cerberus, acelethal, to name a few) - it was a challenge to get into the top 10 each month. I've only stopped playing because all the good players had left and WW stopped supporting the game. So I moved over to WC3 with some friends and had some fun. I also tried Generals... which I thought was a pile of cr**! (I refunded Generals the day after I bought it). Im thinking of reinstalling Emp as its still the best RTS ever made IMO. Its good to see some of you peeps trying to hold onto the game and attract more players. Its a shame WW didn't market it properly.. such a waste of an excellent game. Ok, enough of the appraisals for the game. Can someone tell me how many ppl still play this game? Is the monthly tourny ladder still happening? If anyone is up for some games, let me know and we can arrange to meet for some custom matches (1v1 or 2v2). I should be reinstalling good 'ole Win98 on my system which should be able to handle Emp better than the existing Win2K installation on my ancient pc. looking forward to playing again :)
