  1. And what's his e-mail address...? ;)
  2. I haven't checked the map yet, but I'm on it. I just wanted to know about this map editor. Where can I download it from? And if I can't, would you be able to send it to me via email? Thanx!
  3. Well, thanks for the personal map, I really appreciate it! And what will it be like? And the downloads are not down. I've just got the patch from the Downloads section...
  4. The ftp.westwood.cpm/pub/ is not alive. The 1.06 patch can be dowloaded from Fed2k too. Is it the same? And why are you making a map named nefud?
  5. AMIgaBot: I don't think there's enough room here for me to say thank you! The website you mentioned was alive, the download sequence of the game was perfect, and the game's running like there was never a problem before. Thanx again, dude!
  6. Here is the link if you really wish do dig yourself into all this cr*p: http://www.dune2k.com/forum/index.php?topic=16080.0 It's been discussed for a while, so if you have any further solutions, post them there, please! I'm feeling a bit homesick for Tuck's Sietch and the Imperial Basin... :'(
  7. Yeah, I'm on it! ;)
  8. The worst thing is that D2k should run under XP too. But my windows simply refuses to run Dune. I guess too bad for me... :'(
  9. Gee, it has been almost a decade ago, when I last had played with Lego. Oh, those good ol' times... :D And I've never would think that people are able to do such things from small blocks... I guess the child, who lives in us took over in you... right? ;)

    What Irony!!

Maybe this option is blocked somewhere in the game or with a command line. Probably the makers did not want the Mercs to have the availability to rebuild their base. Maybe they wanted the player to watch over them... who knows...?
  11. Weel I have to disappoint you about me sending pictures about engineer masses, because my D2k is not working... so you'll have to wait a long time for those photos. :-

    What Irony!!

Any of you guys ever seen the computer willingly picking up a crate? Because I have seen the AI sending units to a location, and on their way they came across crates, and picked them up. But I've never ever seen the computer running for a crate...
  13. ophirus: when are you being online? I'd like to try this game out, but when I first made an attampt for challenging sy, no one answered... :(
  14. Writing "DUNE" with engineers is a good one. I like it very much! But when I saw the swarm of engineers on the other picture I thought "J.C. I'd never do something like this..." :O :O :O How could you do it AMIgaBot? I'm considered a patient and calm guy, but even after the 10th minute I'd have lost my temper. It must have been a really hard work. All my respect goes to you, pal! ;)
  15. As much as I know Emperor has more or less the same scheme for victory. On the last (or one of the last - I can't remember now) you have to defeat the Sardaukar and kill the Imperial Worm (which is a huge, mutated worm.) The thing why I prefer WarCraft3 to Emperor is that in WC3 the campaigns follow each other in a line and unlike in WW games the aim is not always the destroying-everything-that-moves idea, but achieving a goal, which is suitable for your race. I think buying sards is good, because they are good at slaying infantry units very fast. Too bad they weren't made uncrushable by tanks such as tesla troops in Red Alert. The thumper infantry is used to deter the worms from your base and from your harvesters. Place one to a distant part of the map, if you want to neutralize the sandworms, but if you want to use them as an attacking unit do the following: deploy a thumper infantry close to the enemy base. After a few minutes/seconds a worm will arrive, and it will go for your thumper. Now undeploy the thumper and re-deploy it closer to the enemy base. Keep on doing this until you run into enemy, base-defending vehicles. They will kill your thumper, and by doing this they will have the worm attacking THEM, because it has no thumper to follow. ;)
  16. ophirus: I'm afraid I have to correct you on fans of WarCraft. Check out this link, and you'll know why: http://blizzard.com/inblizz/fanart/page1.shtml I think Generals will have no such fans, because it's based on reality. One will not dream about something, which has already been dreamed... ;)
  17. I think you shouldn't label "Mercenaries" as a distinct 'house.' They are just people, who will work for those willing to pay for their services. In the game they did not play an important role, so they weren't given different units. The same goes with the Smugglers. They are only those guys who get all the illegal stuff you need. Smuggling is everywhere, but no one would be as fool to openly say "Yes, I'm a smuggler." About the story AMIgaBot wrote: unfortunately I wasn't able to understand much of it. It appeared rather chaotic to me... :- The idea itself - writing a new story about the mercenaries - is a good one, only that I do not agree on calling smugglers and mercenaries as Houses. But of course this is my personal opinion and I do not wish to offend or discourage AMIgaBot from writing stories!
  18. Man, if only I had enough money and knowledge (more problematic part... :P) I would set up my own "everworking" server. I also tried to connect to WOL, but always got dumped after serveral attempts. The problem is - I think - that fandom is always overthrown by money. And if people do not change this attitude effectively (I'm not talking about small groups of fans) the game will perish in the near future. I think WW should manufacture a new series of D2k with extras included. I'd be in the first line to buy one of them. It happened the same with Dune novels in Hungary. All the early editions were sold and only after long months were you able to find a small shop hidden somewhere in the city (or worse - in the country,) which had one final copy of the book. And I think the problem is the same with the games too. The makers/owners think that people do not play with these games - and as we all know they couldn't be more mistaken. The "retro" or "goldie-and-oldie" feeling is being very popular now. So I think D2k would only need a little boost or something... (And if only they'd make Dune2 available for internet or at least multiplayer play... seventh heaven on earth...:D)
  19. I think there's one, we've all missed until now: the movie and the series "Tremors." It's about a worm-like creature, which travels under the ground just like Shai-Hulud, but it's smaller, meaner, and uglier. The film an the tv-series are all very-very bad and low quality, yet it's climeb up to 2 or more parts as a film and a series. Should you see it somewhere, quickly switch channels, because it'll eat your brain up.:)
  20. Dune 4? What is that? A clone? Or a stand-alone-game?
  21. I think the mp3s on Fed2k are excellent, I have no problems with them. (Only one song misses a few seconds of music in the end.) Those are the files, which went out to an Audio-CD, and if my picky CD-player can read them normally, everything can.:) gunner154: there's a program on Fed2k, called "Aud2Wav." With this you can convert .aud files to .wav files. Here's the link: http://www.dune2k.com/?page=files-dune2000&show=audio I checked it and it really works!
  22. Yeah, provided the crates contain Devastators and not booby traps... ;)
  23. Umm... am I the only one who calls Giedi Prime as Giedi Prime? Because even in the books and in D2 it's called Giedi and not Geidi. I do not wish to be a smart-ass, but this question has bothered me long enough... :-
  24. Yes, I have to agree with gunner154. I also like to rock, but I prefer "Under Construction," "The Waiting Game," and etc. while playing D2k. I even made an audio-CD to be able to listen to Dune music, even if I'm not playing it. ;D
  25. gunner154: You've never finshed Dune2? That's a shame! It's one of the coolest games ever! And in the end, when the whole planet turns red (Onward Harks!:)) makes you feel really good! And the stupid face of the Emperor... heh... those times were the best... playing D2 for hours and not caring for anything else. ;D And I have to agree with you that the DeathHand is not as effective as it should be. In D2 it was able to destroy at least the half of a base if amied accurately. In D2k it's nothing... And what did you mean by "unbeatable AI?" And I think sending a single Devastator tank to the enemy base will not be a fruitful enterprise, because it's too slow to outmaneuver missiles and fast units (like u didn't already know that...:)) Even in HOMM3 I couldn't name an uber-unit, which might stand a chance against an army of monsters.
