I am so close ... I downloaded your version which went fine. The opening pages looked good. I went to the next screen and it is split vertically. Reminiscent of the old horizontally split screen problem. I can see the game but it is impossible to play. Re-downloaded it - same thing. Watched the opening movie for the campaign and it works beautifully. What can I try to do to fix the 'black bar' problem? I'm sure it's my system and not the mod. Which I can't thank you enough for as I love this classic game. A fan, Danicus

Not to be a grammar Nazi, but here goes... You wanted to say "It isn't different, it's only a little less advanced." I think we all got your intent, but this way it is better English. I hope this doesn't make you feel bad. If it is any consolation, my Polish sucks. I don't notice you making too many errors in English. My hope is you can take the correction in the spirit it is given ... because smart people like to learn stuff and I can tell you, you are way smarter than me. At least in language acquisition and programming. I'd probably kick your ass in Dune 2000 though. ;D

Now I have to go find the prequel to "tremors" Tremors IV I guess. I liked the 1st one the best out of the 3 I've seen. The worm in this game doesn't really fly. If any giant worm could fly it would be even more terrifying. There was this great old sci-fi book called the "Death Worms of Kratos" part of a series called the Expendables, by Richard Avery. Kind of a fun read if you can find them. I thought they pre-dated "Dune" but they don't Dune according to Wikipedia was written in 1965! Didn't know that.

Greetings, I read thru your post and the thread that was attached to it and first of all - I feel your pain. Apparently, a lot of people have read your post and have this same issue, hopefully my experience will help some of them.I had this problem and (just as you stated) everything I tried failed, until I updated my monitors drivers and "viola" D2K looks good and runs fine in XP. I didn't notice anyone suggesting this, so there you are hope it works for you too. It is a frustrating problem to be so close and then "fail." Cheers, Danicus

Back in the day I used to play around making maps for Dune 2000 with the old S/H map editor and when I upgraded to XP the tile sets looked like the lines you are talking about. I think it was a problem between XP and S/H. I could never figure out how to get the graphics to work. However I don't claim to know anything about programming or the processes involved in correcting this problem - as I'm sure this post, undoubtedly, clearly shows. I apologize too, if this has been discussed in the forum already, and I'm bringing up old news like it's new. It's just I was playing around with some Dune 200 trying to activate the maps from the download section here. (still haven't figured that out yet). :P

We can work it out, we Dune 2000 peeps got to stick together ... On the other hand you can pay a fee at several online sources for the game, but personally I like having the disc in hand. I still play around with Dune 2k (I even haunt the old forums/ web pages - even yours shygirl on occasion) ... when I'm feeling nostalgic or just wanna kick some Harkonnan butt.

Sarge - I can't answer your question. But I'm 99% sure it's been addressed on the forum already. Check thru the archives and look thru the sub-forums (they call them baby forums here,I think... maybe I'm thinking about Abonionia forums ...) In any case do a search on the site and repost if yuou can't find anything giving more details like your OS and other pertinant facts. That way the mods and others can help you with your specific deal.

Oh that was our problem 2 players from same IP address ...yes, it makes sense. You say you play thru MSN? How does that work? You message each other to meet there, or is it something else more complicated and devious? ;D

When you right click on the game in the programs list you can't hit the properties tab and change the compatability? Never heard of this anywhere. Maybe it's some funky WinXP setting you have to toogle on or something?

Reading thru the old posts I get the feeling that people are having a hard time finding Dune 2000 games. I typed in Dune 200o on eBay and found about a dozen for sale most of them are new with shipping priced around $10 USD. What's the problem? Go get a new game and re fight the good old days. Try some of the strategies posted here, and have fun. This is a classic game that needs to be revisited often IMHO.

My fav is Atreides, but it depends on my mood. If I feel like hammering I choose Harks: If I feel like a challenge - I choose Ordos; If I feel like playing with finesse - I choose the Atreides. Sometimes I go to multiplayer and choose practice. Choose random maps and other parameters, and just play the game that way. Had some laughs with 6 players on a 2 player map.

Hi, Loaded D2K on new computer today and tried to get online to play, with the oppenent being my son on the other computer in the house, and when I tried to create "new" game got booted out every time. We ended up playing over the LAN. There seemed to be quite a few peeps on other games at the time. We were the only two in the Dune lobby at the time we tried, however. So every once in a while there are players, it helps to bring your own it seems.
