Acriku, the anti-christian zealot doesn't even understand his own religion of evolution. He said:

<begin Acriku quote>

Arohk, Arohk, Arohk. You're missing a few key points about evolution. Evolution is the change in a gene pool of a population over time. Not addition to the gene pool.

</end Acriku quote>

The current estimate is that there are 30,000 genes in the human gene pool. According to Acriku, all 30,000 of those genes were never "added". Thus we can state that, according to acriku, there has never existed a genepool with less genes than there are now.

Yet at one time there existed no gene pool.

According to evolution (NOT abiogenesis), the first lifeforms had only a few genes. Yet we go from few genes --> millions of genes with NO ADDITIONS?

lol. Acriku, the math wizard seems to have flunked the "1+1" type of math.

Now one second here. You associate genes as actual physical things. They aren't. Genes are just loci on chromosomes. Certain parts of the DNA (codons) that ultimately make my eyes brown are marked by one or more genes. They are markers for parts that code for certain things. When you change a codon that ultimately codes for something else, that wasn't there before, a "gene" is added to the pool. But nothing really is added.

Amino acids that, when linked in 20, form proteins that make up our phenotypes. I have brown eyes because certain proteins make my eyes brown, due to the change in amino acids, as opposed to the amino acids that make someone else's eyes blue.

Perhaps this helps.

of course, like all atheists you try to slime your way out of an obvious blunder. even chromosomes and DNA was, according to your religion, at one time less (both in information and in quantative substance) than it is now. no matter what kind of spin you put on it, your religion teaches that many came from few through addition.

So, amino acids and nucleotides just popped into existence over time, after life was created?

whatever floats your boat acriku. point being at one time there were no genes, no chromosomes, no DNA, no condons, and no condoms (lol). then there were (according to your religion) a few genes, a few chromosomes, "simple" DNA, few condons. And now there are many. Obviously something has been ADDED unless your religion also denies math. Point being, you can believe whatever makes you happy, warm and fuzzy inside.

Please try not to over-generalize people emprworm. And read posts for what they are. To my knowledge Acriku only said no genes were ever added to the pool, not DNA, not chromosomes, not condons.

I'd also like to point out that you accuse Acriku of blind ignorance while in the very same post you seem unaware of what genes actually are.

First off let me correct Acriku....

The eye color Acriku is referring to has to do with alleles.

Changes in alleles are not as significant as changes in genes..

AND YES acriku genes are physical things...

Genes are physical sequences of DNA along a chromosome that code for RNA that code for proteins.

Add a gene to a genome... and you have added something..

More genes = more DNA = Larger Genome

He must have gotten himself a bit confused when he was arguing with emprworm..

When discussing Evolution.. the number of Genes is significant..

The human genome has 3 x 10 to the power of 9

its very true, that acriku only has a certain amount of highschool level knowledge of science, with a bit of higherr learning taken from the internet. You do too though empr. You guys are related to eachother. Both on the extremes. At least you guys are better than nav.lol

PS... Evolution is real....through these Genome duplications new body segments and body parts evolved thru time and new species formed.

And yes new genes were created.

And please refrain from using the

I'm ok with that, after all I am still learning evolutionary biology. I'm glad you came to settle things GUNWOUNDS :)

TMA, I bet you know a lot more evolutionary biology than me :D

P.S. I plan to get a degree in evolutionary biology, so this helps GUNWOUNDS, thanks again :)

P.S.S. TMA I have taken college level biology, so shut your trap when you try to say I have highschool level science ::)

and its funny that many theories concerning the process of life development have ideas of the fact that R.N.A. was the first amino acid-protien polymer, and that it was found in rich soil and clay. seems kinda silly.

Also, I was wondering gunwounds, isnt D.N.A. the actual memory of the cell, while the R.N.A. strands are the duplicates that go through the cell and transfer their information in order for the cell to grow and reproduce? I am probably ocmpletely wrong, I am just wondering if that is generally how it works?

What's so silly? RNA most likely did come first, and there is new research going on that highly suggests it can come from out of space *X-Files theme plays* Many things that one does not understand find those things silly.

lol how many classes? and from where? I have already completed my associates degree, but its off for you in the marines. ::)

College Biology, that's what I said. Next year, in my senior year, I will finish College Economics, College Government, College Calculus, College Latin, and College Physics. From where you ask? Highschool of course. We have specialized teachers who teach college classes in highschool. And going into the Marines has nothing to do with knowledge or lack thereof, so nice try with the attack.

lol oh man, what a wealth of information! those teachers must come from the best schools, I mean to teach you from highschool and all.

Gimme a break........Evolution is real.. but God started it.

Ok i'm not going to nitpick like some do but don't you believe the Genesis account?

good grief gunwonds, I was wrong about you in some ways and I am sorry. I really respect your knowledge. Me being a simpleton and all, it helps when there are nice people who explain how it works instead of arguing that it works. Also didnt realize that organic molecules break down so easily.

I have heard of this outer space theory, most scientists are completely against it. It is a really horrible explanation for the "soup" problem. Most scientists agree that it wasent in liquid though but in clay, if I remmeber right...

OK sneezer you want to know if i believe the creation story in genesis??

Yes i do but i believe it in a different way.

You see I believe that the earth was made in 7 days.. but in "7 of God's Days"

I think there is a difference.

Einstein says when you travel at the speed of light .. time slows down to a crawl.

Well God dwells within the realm of "eternity" and there you should be able to travel at the speed of light or even faster.

So maybe 1 day of "God's" time is a few billion years of "Human time"

I dont know how to explain this......

Its like if an astronaut had a spaceship with a warp engine and he travelled....to a star that was 50 light years away...and then came back.... in one day.... he would have only aged 1 day.. but all his friends on earth would have aged 100 years.

So maybe there is some sort of time relativity going on with genesis.

Maybe the 7 days god is referring to .. is billions of years in our time.

in other words 2 Peter 3:8?

I was just curious to your angle. But this isn't neither the place nor the thread to argue over something like that. :)

My opinion would be that the modern human gene pool contains a number similar to emp's (30,000) and that as humans progress the genes alter themselves as a result of their surrounding enviroment. Although I have only skimmed the posts preceding mine (in an effort not to overthink things).

Sounds about right. There doesn't have to be any additions, just mutations. Natural mutation could enhance the number of genes without adding anything new, just modifying what was already there. Thus the number can increase without addition.

hmm but most gene manipulation and gene increase we find has to do with disorders of the body. such as downs syndorme and others.
