With a trojan.

I don't know how i could have gotten it. i haven't downloaded anything recently. but let me go ahead and get into the details. Whenever i leave internet explorer idle on for a while it swiches to a security advertisement(not a pop up)

It could have something to do with gator... I used add-aware on it a few months ago. But for some reason it only deleted part of it. Since then i can only open up one internet explorer at a time. I haven't downloaded anything recently.

Maybe i'm not infected. but if not how can my CD-drive open then about two or three seconds latter close. and at the same time an advertisement pop up on explorer about security on some website(sorry lost the link i'l get it if it happends again), on two diffrant occasions?it happend(s) after it's left idle for so long.

The only other thing i know of is if it could be spread across an online game. I haven't been on anything but Medal of honer Allied Assult or Battlezone2 recently though. if you have questions here i am.

Thanks. Appreciate it more then you know. :)

Do you have a virus scanner (up to date) ? If so, did it report anything ?

If you haven't got a virus scanner, I'd stronly suggest to purchase one. If you don't know which one, I can recommend McAfee. I've been using it for years now and it has never failed me.

I don't know the exact possibility if you could have been infected by playing online games. Although unlikely, as information is being send back and forth, it could be that online gaming could infect you, but chances on that happening are very slim. Reason for it to be unlikely is that viruses need an executable file (com/sys/inf/bat/exe, ec, ect) to be activated. As far as I know, server info doesn't contain those files. The only info sent back and forth is what needs to be loaded and telling it's done (hence why you need to have the maps played, stored locally).

What kind of security advertisement is it, if possible could you make a screenshot of it ans attach it here ?

This is an article about a recently found security hole in IE versions 4 and above. Is appears to crash IE bowsers, explorer or outlook which accesses a HTML page with a certain contents..I have no clue if the link even works, although I would suggest you don't visit it or when you do don't blame me for things that have gone wrong. The link is there for NON-IE users who whould like to see the code for themselfs ! I've looked at the page with Opera 7, and it seems harmless to me. ]

For the non-IE users, the page can be found here.

That's a link to a free anti-virus program, if you don't have the money to purchase a good virus scanner like Norton Anti-virus or PC-Cillin. It's what I'm currently using, the user interface is simple and easy to navigate, and the program can search for virus pattern updates periodically or whenever you wish.

You should be supprised how safe porn sites are. They have enough legal problems allready and need the hits more then commercial sites. So keeping the visitors away with bad servers, viri and things like that is not what they have in mind ... .
