Well, he couldn't be much more aggresive and radical than the current American crew. They already enacted the whole "pre-emptive war" doctrine which goes against everything the UN was supposed to stand for.

Ya, but the UN is a bunch of crap. They have not done anything productive in years. We attacked Iraq because we felt that they were a threat to us and to most of the free world, and we attacked unilaterally because the UN wouldnt get off their collective arses and do anything. The UN is pretty much just a big forum where people can complain about the USA. What would happen if we did not attack Iraq, and Iraq later hit france or germany with a weapons of mass destruction(probably delivered by terrorists)? The same UN that condemns us now for going in would condemn us then for not going in in the first place. that is pretty much how most of Europe is, they dont like us and they dont want us around until they are in trouble and need help.

Oh, I thought the popular argument these days was that we were "liberating" the Iraqis because we felt sorry for them. Maybe that's because we attacked them, unprovoked, and we didn't find much of a threat at all.

Whether the UN is effective or not, the reason it was formed was to de-escalate conflict and prevent wars of aggression. These days all that amounts to is bickering about the US because they are powerless to stop us or our allies.

Uh... I think it has been established now that Iraq was indeed a haven for terrorists. Ansar Al Islam in the North, Abbas captured in Baghdad, and terrorist training facilities in Baghdad itself. In this alone the threat is demonstrated.

This war may seem unprovoked until you look at the larger picture. Iraq's failure to demonstrate the destruction of it's WMD and it's defiance of the UN and it's inspectors constituted provocation. That was the agreement for peace and an agreement they did not live up to.

You can NOT de-escalate conflict through diplomacy alone. The UN demonstrated that it can talk big, but pisses down it's leg when it is time for action. The UN will decide it's final fate. Hopefully they will show that they can, indeed be a credible peace keeper.

It has been shown that Ansar Al Islam has links to Al Queada in documents found in their camp. This is exactly what Powell stated in his address to the UN.

I can't seem to find an article. I had seen it on the news a while back, but it is possible that it was a preliminary report and not supported later.

However, Ansar Al Islam does link Iraq to terrorism. This among other findings shows Iraq to have indeed been a threat to the US.

No, Ansar al Islam is a group from Iran that does have links to Al Qaeda. They are not linked to Saddam's regime, they are part of the opposition, in essence a terrorist organisation attacking Iraq on behalf of the Ayatollahs of Tehran.
