Saudi Arabia is a tough question. I think the Saudi government is against terrorism and has taken measures to stop it. But much of the Saudi population supports Al Quieda, Hama, and other terrorist groups. They could probably do a lot more to stop terrorism, but thier government is officially against it. This makes the situation tough.

Well, they're a nice, lovely, peaceful country... Sure, they punish "heresy" with beheading and it's illegal not to be a Muslim, but who cares? After all, the oil must flow... ::)

i wondered the same thing. attacking them, is too far, though. however, saudi arabia is one of the most intolerant vile nations on earth.

:(

i honestly don't know why they are our friends.

but War is last resort. First there must be some resolutions against them that they violate repeatedly, then we attack. At minimum, I do think that they should be sanctioned and not considered allies.

The fact that they're your "friends" might have something to do with the fact that they have the largest oil reserves in the world...

But fact is they will never be as long as they have the black gold. Ask the british government why they haven't done ANYTHING against the false aqusations of British citizens bying imprisoned for bomb attacks when every one know it wasn't them. And the Saudi government sits on sticks if they agree too much with the west they'll be overthrown.

Did I say that they were a nice, lovely, peaceful nation? I simply said that their government does not officially support terrorism in response to the first post.

Human Rights in Saudi Arabia are deplorable, and I do wonder why we don't condemn their actions more vehemently.

well the US isn't the only guilty nation. all modern nations using oil including Romanai, and wherever NAM is from are being nice and "tolerant" of the vile Saudi Arabia.

I do not support my country in this. We should break all ties with that nation.

the little red and white flag indicates that I'm from the little kingdom called Denmark, you know the place where Hamlet was prince. And yes I do know we need oil (well infact we are nearly selfsufficient and we have Norway just a stonthrow away) but I'm wondering why the world accept this.

and have each country rely on other energy means. the human species can survive without oil. It will run out anyway. so might as well start transitioning now.

I can't agree more with you Emprworm but see Denmark is way ahead of you (well we are starting a new bad policy but it doesn't change anything) we are one of the most ecological correct nations worldwide, we are leading on the windmill market. One thing I'd like to see though is the US leading, if you want to be able to be the ruling nation in this wolrd you must also set an example and let's face it you're not on this area far from.

Well then, Emprworm, how about practicing what you preach?

Have you ever stopped to consider where the gas for your SUV comes from?

everytime i put gas in it I know that some intolerant Saudi just got paid money to fund terrorism.

not much I can do about it except join with others and press our government about it. the SUV is the only car I have. i am too poor to get another one right now. i wont be buying anotoher SUV tho.

Saudi Arabia is a monarchy government, political parties and leaders are not allowed. The Saudi Arabia has 26% of the world's oil reserves the largest in the world, largest exporter of oil and the leading role in OPEC. Their export partners are the US 17.4%, Japan 17.3%, South Korea 11.7%, Singapore 5.3%, India (2000). There import partners are the US 21.1%, Japan 9.4%, Germany 7.4%, UK 7.3% (2000).

Saudi Arabia pledged $100 million in 1993 to fund reconstruction of Lebanon; since 1993, Saudi Arabia has committed $208 million for assistance to the Palestinians; "pledged $240 million to development in Afghanistan"

At least you're aware of the harm being done with your own money. I respect you for that. I know that you have no choice - none of us do, and that's the problem...

You may not agree with my universal loathing of our immensely corrupt corporations, but what about the oil companies? You and I both would be very glad to see them out of business.

About Saudi Arabia, (US allie)

"i honestly don't know why they are our friends."

Because of OIL.

"I do not support my country in this. We should break all ties with that nation."

Once US secure and control Iraq's oil, then probably US will be in a position to be less dependant of Saudi Arabia's oil....

"Human Rights in Saudi Arabia are deplorable, and I do wonder why we don't condemn their actions more vehemently."

National Security and OIL are the reasons. The very same history of US and HR policy in foreing countries repeats itself again and again and again, when it's convenience is more important than the values the preach about and never apply.

Because US usually first makes an intentional mistake and regret about it 20 years later, when they took all the advantage they possible could.

Funny that you should say that.
