TMA_1
Ever thought that frank almost made his own little cameo appearance as liet kynes in Dune? I always thought that frank kinda used that character to express what he was or wanted to be in a sort of heroic fashion. anybody agree? Inoculator9
I agree. From what I've read about Frank Herbert, he did seem to try to portray himself in Liet. This is similar to Herbert's tendency to test out concepts in books and then plop them into others (similar in that he mixes things up). For example, in the Dosadi Experiment Frank Herbert first introduces chairdogs as a concept.
Vanguard3000
I never really thought of it that way, but I suppose you could be right. I always saw Kynes as the liason between the ecologically illiterate (i.e. the reader) and the important ecological ("planetological"?) aspects of Dune. But of course Herbert himself knew a lot about ecology, so you could look at Dr. Kynes as a "Herbertian" character. Inoculator9
That might be a more appropriate way of classifying him.
Mahdi
Kynes ws orginally going to be the hero of Dune, back when the initial concept a just an ecological story.
Dunenewt
I would have liked to have seen FH's notes... :'(
Colonel_Worf
And it was going to be Pardot Kynes, of prequel fame according to McNelly, who probably has no idea! :)
