Guest Killwithsound Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 Well I'm back with a lockup problem. The game freezes on the skirmish and multiplayer player selection screens. The game worked fine with my Geforce 2, but has this lockup problem with my Geforce 3. I've adjusted the hardware accleration in device manager, adjusted the refresh rate of the monitor and adapter, reinstalled the game, and reinstalled directx 8. I still can't fix the problem. Here is my specs from the EZ program from WW.---EASy System Summary-------------------------------------- Video Card : NVIDIA GeForce3 Video Driver : nvdisp.drv Driver Version : 4.13.01.1241 Sound Card : Creative Ensoniq AudioPCI Sound Driver : sbpci.vxd Driver Version : 4.06.00.2001 DirectX : DirectX 8 Operating System Windows 98 A 4.10.2222----EASy System Output--------------------------------------- Computer Name : CinderBIOS Info Name : Award Version : Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG PNP : Plug and Play BIOS Manufacturer : (Standard system devices)CPU Info CPU Count : 1 CPU Type : 798 MHz AuthenticAMD Athlon 6 2 1 RAM : 255 MB Total 176 MB Free Virtual RAM : 1792 MB Total 1792 MB Free Operating System : Windows 98 A 4.10.2222 Default Browser : Internet Explorer Version : 5.0.2614.3500 Temp Directory : C:WINDOWSTEMP Size : 632 KB----------------------------------------------------------------Display Info-------------------------------------------- Number of Displays : 1 Current Mode (Primary) : 800x600 16 Refresh Rate (Primary) : Adapter DefaultPrimary display device Description : NVIDIA GeForce3 Manufacturer : NVIDIA Video Memory : 64 MB Main Driver : nvdisp.drv Version : 4.13.01.1241 Provider : NVIDIASupported Display Modes | 16 | 256 | 16 bits| 24 bits| 32 bits --------------------------------------------------- 640 x 480| * | * | * | | * 800 x 600| | * | * | | * 1024x 768| | * | * | | * 1152x 864| | | | | 1280x1024| | | | | 1600x1200| | | | | ----------------------------------------------------------------Sound, Video and Game Controllers----------------------- Description : Creative Ensoniq AudioPCI Manufacturer : Creative Main Driver : sbpci.vxd Version : 4.06.00.2001 Provider : Description : Wave Device for Voice Modem Manufacturer : Creative Labs Inc. Nyarlathotep Posted July 27, 2001 Author Posted July 27, 2001 I'll continue in this thread Killwithsound:When you changed video cards, before swapping them, did you set the display adapter in windows - control panel - system - device manager to vga default ?Nyar...
Guest Identity Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 X-Ray I got the driver of the nvidia site. Go to download drivers on the top bar, windows95/98/ME and on the left hand side there are two files, one certified and one not. Or just copy and paste this link:http://www.nvidia.com/docs/lo/532/SUPP/12.41-W9X.exe
Guest Killwithsound Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 Sure did. That's standard practice for card changes.
Nyarlathotep Posted July 27, 2001 Author Posted July 27, 2001 Guy's, with the NVIDIA drivers, look at my posts above !The SBLive! drivers are OS dependend, so I would not compare them to mine, but for NVIDIA, they don't distinguish between Windows 98 or Windows ME.Nyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted July 27, 2001 Author Posted July 27, 2001 Oh and -x-ray, Identity is using windows ME and guess what..he's having files from 1999 or older.. The fact still stands :DNyar...
Guest Identity Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 where can you get older nvidia drivers and do i have more direct x components than others?
Nyarlathotep Posted July 27, 2001 Author Posted July 27, 2001 -x-Ray, Identity,I've been checking things and I would go for the older driver:Video Driver : nvdisp.drvDriver Version : 4.13.01.1210Nyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted July 27, 2001 Author Posted July 27, 2001 This might get funny... I went to the visiontek website and under the post of "game specific lock ups" it says:"2) Contact the video game manufacturer for updates or patches to resolve problems. You may also review the web site of the game manufacturer for possible FAQ's or troubleshooting tips. These tips are often found in the "tech support" or "support" section of their web site."correct me if I'm wrong...but isn't ww's statement "check with your videocard manufacturer" ? :DNyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted July 27, 2001 Author Posted July 27, 2001 Killwithsound, did you try this:"Run uninstall program for previous video card drivers, then reinstall latest drivers for VisionTek graphic accelerator. You may need to boot into safe mode to uninstall the drivers for the VisionTek card and your old card and then perform a "clean install" with latest drivers posted on our web site."Nyar...
Guest Killwithsound Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 Thanks for your Help Nyar. I am continuing to look into the problem as well. I'll let you know if I come up with anything.Killwithsound.
Guest Killwithsound Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 I am trying that as we speak. I doubt that it will work though. I had done a clean install before, but that was with Nvidia's reference drivers. I am downloading Visionteks drivers, but I'm pretty sure that they are one and the same set of drivers, but I'm giving it a shoot anyway.

number6 Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 alley_cat, I am using the 1.04 drivers for my voodoo card.
Nyarlathotep Posted July 27, 2001 Author Posted July 27, 2001 number6, you're early :)Could you post any links where to get them from for Alley ?Nyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted July 27, 2001 Author Posted July 27, 2001 No, you don't have more components (that's with a quick look though :) ).As for the driver, trying to find it. What driver version did you have when you bought the card ? And did you upgrade it just for EBFD ?Nyar...
number6 Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 Killwithsound, Just a thought that popped in my head, but have you considered what the power requirements for the Geforce 3 might be? It may be trying to draw more power from your motherboard than the Geforce 2 did and your power supply might not be able to handle it. What's the power rating of your power supply? Is it at least 300W? I know this sounds like a crazy question. If all of your drivers are up to date, that makes me start thinking about the hardware.
Nyarlathotep Posted July 27, 2001 Author Posted July 27, 2001 To support what number6 just said, copied below from Visiontek:"5) The VisionTek graphic accelerators powered by NVIDIA’s GeForce chip have an appetite for power. VisionTek recommends system with a power supply 250W or higher.6) Your motherboard must be capable of providing adequate voltage to the AGP card. The AGP 2.0 specification requires 6A at 3.3V for the AGP socket and 2A at 5.0V for the AGP memory. The VisionTek GeForce will consume up to 6A at 3.3V and 2A at 5.0V when running video intensive applications such as 3D games."Nyar...
number6 Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 nyar, This site that was posted by Chis from Westwood is a good link:http://www.gamers-ammo.com/v3.htmlIt has voodoo3 drivers all the way back to 1.00.I am downloading a file from there now.Yes, I am in early today. I want to leave work early, it's Friday.
Nyarlathotep Posted July 27, 2001 Author Posted July 27, 2001 Killwithsound, when installing the new driver, did you have any virus progs running in the background ? look at the post from Nvidia below:"Do not run virus protection software in the background while installing the drivers. This prevents the driver from configuring itself properly."Nyar...
Guest Killwithsound Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 I just tried the clean install, and no luck. A strange thing occured though, the display was, (for the first time,) using the resolution that I had selected for the game. Before with this card and the old one, the display was on a constant 800x600 res. The game would always play at the resolution that I had selected though. Anyway I digress. About the power issue, all my other games work fine with the new card. Max Payne and Anarchy online, as well as campaign mode for EB4D. Also I like to add that I have adjusted my desktop res to match the game res, no luck. And I have made it not match as well. Still no luck. Thanks, Killwithsound.
Nyarlathotep Posted July 27, 2001 Author Posted July 27, 2001 -x-ray, Identity, from what manufacturer are your cards ?Try searching their sites. Nyar...[This message has been edited by Nyarlathotep (edited 07-27-2001).]
