Nyarlathotep Posted January 21, 2002 Author Posted January 21, 2002 Cylor, let me know if you had any luck with one of the drivers I copied earlier..Radar, if you haven't heard anything from Westwood by tomorrow, please let me know !"Doc" Nyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted January 21, 2002 Author Posted January 21, 2002 Helmsley, did you upgrade and if so, did it help ?"Doc" Nyar...
Guest kingofall Posted January 21, 2002 Posted January 21, 2002 i found a v1.07 downloaded it then it said i have the most up to date version
Nyarlathotep Posted January 21, 2002 Author Posted January 21, 2002 I know the 1.07 is the most current one, that's exactly the problem :)"Doc" Nyar...
Guest Cylor856 Posted January 21, 2002 Posted January 21, 2002 So, at this point, are you thinking my problem lies with the video card?
Nyarlathotep Posted January 21, 2002 Author Posted January 21, 2002 Well, let me put it like this, all the things I've found so far are pointing in that direction. Never the less, I'm no "mister know it all". I'm just looking at the facts that I find and take action on them.Only way to exclude the videocard is to try another one.. Then again, not everyone has a spare videocard laying around :)How ever, the above said, it doesn't mean I stop seraching for a solution for you !"Doc" Nyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted January 21, 2002 Author Posted January 21, 2002 And let's not rule out the fact that I think XP users still need a patch from Westwood !"Doc" Nyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted January 22, 2002 Author Posted January 22, 2002 Radar, watch your mail :D"Doc" Nyar...
Guest Radar Posted January 22, 2002 Posted January 22, 2002 Thanks for the mail Nyar, it's appreciated.Btw, i got a new computer today, so i might be a bit busy installing stuff on it for a couple of days. Who knows if Emperor might run on it?
Guest Cylor856 Posted January 22, 2002 Posted January 22, 2002 Nyar, I tried turning off hardware T&L in the game's settings, but it had no positive effect... in fact it seemed to slow things down even more.As for the drivers, the newest one listed on that site (Win2k/XP drivers for the Viper II) is the one I already have installed. The only other diagnostic test I can think of is to try running the game on a friend's computer, who also has XP and a different video card... however, I have no idea when or even if I will be able to do that, it may be some time. Does anyone have any other suggestions, in the meantime...?
Nyarlathotep Posted January 22, 2002 Author Posted January 22, 2002 Cylor, Kingofall, let me know if you guy's had any luck with the links provided.."Doc" Nyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted January 22, 2002 Author Posted January 22, 2002 Okay, thanks for the update. I'll see whatelse I can find out.(Currently a bit tied up in work, but I'll get back to you)."Doc" Nyar...
Guest Cylor856 Posted January 22, 2002 Posted January 22, 2002 No worries, and no complaints from me... beggars can't be choosers, after all. :)In any event, it looks like I won't be playing Emperor for a while... especially if I end up having to replace my video card. Guess I'll just have to occupy my time with other games for a while...
Guest kingofall Posted January 22, 2002 Posted January 22, 2002 anyone know any other link than voodoo files cos they only got 1.07 >:( and i reaLLy wanna play Emperor

Nyarlathotep Posted January 22, 2002 Author Posted January 22, 2002 Cylor, check out the following:http://lmoschella.tripod.com/graphics_more/id8.htmlAnd the next one is a guy who tweaked the drivers specificly for XP.. Be warned though, I do not know how XP will react on them, but from the reviews, it seems to work (and giving it the best chance):http://jgc.homeip.net/news.php?newsid=147Let me know how it went (if you're going to use it that is..)"Doc" Nyar...
Guest Cylor856 Posted January 23, 2002 Posted January 23, 2002 Nyar, I tried installing the tweaked driver... no improvement, same problem. Sigh...
Guest Cylor856 Posted January 24, 2002 Posted January 24, 2002 I've been trying to sift through Microsoft's message boards, to see if there are any threads on this topic... but there are hundreds of thousands of technical posts, and I don't have that kind of time.
Nyarlathotep Posted January 24, 2002 Author Posted January 24, 2002 Well, to be honest, at this point I'm almost positive we're in need of a patch from Westwood..I'm almost certain the problem is related to a videocard - patch issue. I've searched and digged into many XP issues that I found and almost all were solved after a (game) patch..Never the less, I will keep searching for a solution.."Doc" Nyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted January 24, 2002 Author Posted January 24, 2002 Rein, thanks for the e-report and I'll get back to you as soon as possible. Can I please ask not to put to many bumps in the topic. Believe me, I'll keep an close eye on this thread (as you may have noticed :))"Doc" Nyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted January 24, 2002 Author Posted January 24, 2002 Rein's cry for help:I have a Sony Viao Computer from about 2 years ago. Good machine.I upgraded my ATI drivers for my ATI Xpert 99Video card. It says it supports DirectX 8.x.I also installed DirectX 8.1. I have win98se.I can play the single player game all day.No problems. But my system locks up when I enter theConnecting... window after I hit [ACCEPT].I do not have any other programs running.I was able to play network mode before I upgraded the video drivers and installed DirectX 8.1. Also, the DirectX 8.1 testsall passed. Please help!I tried to install the old video driverand now I can not even play the single playerwithout lockup to desktop.Just so you all know, this is a FRESH installof win98se. Could it be because I have only 128MB ram? It use to run with the defaultdirectX that came with the Emperor game CD.But maybe DirectX8.1 needs more memory?I put the newest ATI Xpert 99 drivers backin and I can play single player but stilllocks up when I try Network. It does not lock up until I choose a gameand the game is started. It locks up inthe Connecting... screen! Please help!HELP!There must be a specific event or operation that causes the game to lock up at that"Connecting..." screen.I can "DownLoad Channels" and click to joina pending game and chat while we all decideon the map and game options. If the Westwood coders just looked in thatpart of the code it would give a VERY GOOD CLUE as to what code calls are locking up the game. Also, Since I can play the game in Single Player and do everything in the network modeup until the "Connecting..." screen I thinkit may not be DirectX8.1 or my video driverright?Unless, a very unique call is being made atthat "Connecting..." screen.Maybe it is the embedded web browser?I have the newest Internet Explorer 6 too.The win98se install is very FRESH - only a few days old! The game works very fast and well in all other aspects but the multiplayer mode.I upgrade my memmory to 256MB and upgradedmy network card to an Intel Pro Server 10/100 card ( expensive network card ) andit does the same thing. All the DirectX 8.1 and Direct3D/DirectSoundtests pass.I really want to play multiplayer again. The Sony Vaio uses a ASUS P2B-AE monther board, has ATI Rage 128 ( Xpert99 ) 8MB videocard, and AUREAL sound chipset, 256MB ram,FRESH install win98se with directX8.1, intelpro server enthernet card.I have newest available ATI driver ( requires directX 8.x ) so I installedDirectX 8.1. I have newest AUREAL sound driver and newest Intel ethernet driver.I have the 1.09 V ( newest Emperor update ).What else can I tell you folks that would help? I really hope it is not a compatibility problem with Emperor and win98se with DirectX 8.1. "Doc" Nyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted January 24, 2002 Author Posted January 24, 2002 Rein,For DirectX, it doesn't matter how much memory you have. What you have now should do fine.I doubt it'll be your webbrouwser, but I'll install IE6 and will try the game to see what happens. After installing Windows 98, did you also use "Windows update" (start => Windows update) ? If not, I suggest you do that. And don't worry about EBFD not being compatible with DirectX 8.1, cause I'm running EBFD with DirectX 8.1Please try to get that output of the EASy file in here, it really would help me in order t troubleshoot your problem.Btw, no Westwood tech will be watching this board, so you have to do with the people on the board here :DIt would be good if you'd report your problem to Westwood tech support, just follow this link:http://westwood.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/westwood.cfg/php/enduser/acct_login.php?p_sid=bBStt26g&p_lva=&p_sp=&p_li=&p_next_page=myq_ilp.phpOnce there, click on "Create new help account" (if you already haven't got one, otherwise just log in)."Doc" Nyar...
