VigilVirus Posted January 20, 2003 Posted January 20, 2003 I read all those pages, Emprworm. Atheists are people just like the rest of us, everyone has emotions. And can't you for once spell my name right?? Is it so hard??
Acriku Posted January 20, 2003 Posted January 20, 2003 Emprworm, actually there wasn't an argument. I know that there are extreme atheists, but there are thousands, if not millions, more christians that are. So which would you make fun of? A known subject that many will find funny, or a subject not so widespread that only a few select people find funny?
emprworm Posted January 20, 2003 Posted January 20, 2003 "Emprworm, actually there wasn't an argument. I know that there are extreme atheists, but there are thousands, if not millions, more christians that are. "hmmm...i wonder if, perhaps...it could be that there are millions, if not billions more supernaturalists then atheists? Ever consider that might have something to do with the figures?
emprworm Posted January 20, 2003 Posted January 20, 2003 "Atheists are people just like the rest of us, everyone has emotions."uhhh...like Yah! Thats what I've been saying! ::)
VigilVirus Posted January 20, 2003 Posted January 20, 2003 No one was arguing with you about that. You seemed to think that Atheists were somehow worse.
Edric O Posted January 20, 2003 Posted January 20, 2003 Emprworm, actually there wasn't an argument. I know that there are extreme atheists, but there are thousands, if not millions, more christians that are.Absolute numbers are irrelevant, because there are many more Christians than atheists overall. Now what do the percentages say? (Honestly, I have no idea. Someone should do a survey)Oh, and by the way, this state of fact will not last much longer. It is estimated that Christianity will be a minority religion in the United States by 2035, and even sooner in Europe.
VigilVirus Posted January 20, 2003 Posted January 20, 2003 That's if nothing changes in the next 32 years. And that's a pretty lame prediction.
emprworm Posted January 20, 2003 Posted January 20, 2003 No one was arguing with you about that. You seemed to think that Atheists were somehow worse.actually I seemed to think only that atheism has numerous fanatics and zealots like any religion does
Edric O Posted January 20, 2003 Posted January 20, 2003 That's if nothing changes in the next 32 years. And that's a pretty lame prediction.Do you honestly think that things are gonna change IN FAVOUR of Christianity? If anything, it's gonna get worse and worse.
emprworm Posted January 20, 2003 Posted January 20, 2003 the only thing I would conted about Edrics numbers is that it might happen SOONER.
Acriku Posted January 20, 2003 Posted January 20, 2003 Guys guys guys! I only stated that there are more christian fanatics because I was explaining that if you have something that is popular and widespread, it would be logical to make fun of that than something that isn't popular, and risk no one getting the joke. Stop putting words in my mouth Edric and Empr :P
emprworm Posted January 20, 2003 Posted January 20, 2003 Fine Acriku, I wont put words in your mouth:<to edric>"it doesn't matter if you are insulted, everyone is insulted by something, and this is hilarious! Oh man, when I'm down, all I have to do is go there and my day is set."<to others>"If an atheist made it as joke, oh my devil that is hilarious! Sad if by a christian, funny as heaven if by an atheist. ""Besides, you don't see fundamentalist atheists shouting the greatness of anybody, trying to convert anybody, just making fools of themselves completely and doing it often.""Religion is such an enemy to the intellect, it must be hell to be a Christian with a high school diploma"
Acriku Posted January 20, 2003 Posted January 20, 2003 Actually you just did put words in my mouth again by association with other things I've said: ""Religion is such an enemy to the intellect, it must be hell to be a Christian with a high school diploma""
emprworm Posted January 20, 2003 Posted January 20, 2003 it doesn't matter if you quote someone or not, if you are referencing it in support, you still say it.
Acriku Posted January 20, 2003 Posted January 20, 2003 I did no such thing, you don't know my reasons for putting it on my sig.
emprworm Posted January 20, 2003 Posted January 20, 2003 you display it like a name tag. its pretty obvious the kind of message you are sending. communication is all about the message, what goes on inside your brain is irrelevant. you are communicating to everyone the following message:"Religion is such an enemy to the intellect, it must be hell to be a Christian with a high school diploma"now, if that is not your intent to communicate that to everyone as if you were wearing a T shirt or a bumper sticker, then please add a clarifying remark in there.
Acriku Posted January 20, 2003 Posted January 20, 2003 Emprworm, it has an author name. As in I did not say it. As in I have nothing to do with it. Stop. Putting. Words. In. My. Mouth.
emprworm Posted January 20, 2003 Posted January 20, 2003 Acriku, it is your signature. it is your name tag. It is your bumper sticker. Any person with an IQ of 10 or more will reasonably conclude that you are in agreement with that statement, hence you are making it.Stop. Having. A. Double. Standard.
Acriku Posted January 20, 2003 Posted January 20, 2003 You are not getting it. I found it amusing. So I put it on the signature. It has no reflection of what I feel, so stop trying.
emprworm Posted January 20, 2003 Posted January 20, 2003 i am not telling you what you feel. i am telling you what you communicate. I can love black people in my heart and then spew hate speech...what will it communicate? Any black man that reads a racist comment can reasonably conclude things about the one making it.Have you ever considered that the statements you make or quote communicate a message to others? Its all about what you communicate, not about what you actually feel. Any reasonable person will read your sig and make some conclusions. Then they will read opposing statements and ultimately conclude a massive double standard. If your words do not synchronize with what you actually think, they make your communication at best unintentional deception...at worst lies.
Acriku Posted January 20, 2003 Posted January 20, 2003 You can think all you want about it, and infer whatever you want, but they aren't my words, so back off. If I put a racist comment in my sig, does that make me racist? No. I just might've found it funny. So you can stick your words back into your mouth and take a big gulp, and try to swallow real hard so you don't vomit them all over this thread. Perhaps we should go back on topic?
nemafakei Posted January 20, 2003 Posted January 20, 2003 Empr, don't be such an idiot. Acriku's sig is known as humour. Accept that he means it as such or accept that if you would ignore him, he has every right to do the smae to you.
emprworm Posted January 20, 2003 Posted January 20, 2003 You can think all you want about it, and infer whatever you want, but they aren't my words, so back off. They were not invented by you, but you promote them and associate yourself to them. They are not yours as in source, but they are yours as in "Acriku's Unique Identifying Mark in These Forums"...they represent YOUR signature...they represent YOUR identifier...so yea, they are yours by association. The following things have been said by Acriku...some quoted, some he made up, I am not always sure which is which, but we can at least say that Acriku communicated the following statements to the forum:"it doesn't matter if you are insulted, everyone is insulted by something, and this is hilarious! Oh man, when I'm down, all I have to do is go there and my day is set."<to others>1. "If an atheist made it as joke, oh my devil that is hilarious! Sad if by a christian, funny as heaven if by an atheist. "2. "Besides, you don't see fundamentalist atheists shouting the greatness of anybody, trying to convert anybody, just making fools of themselves completely and doing it often."3. "Religion is such an enemy to the intellect, it must be hell to be a Christian with a high school diploma"4. "I found it amusing. So I put it on the signature. It has no reflection of what I feel, so stop trying. "Since it is customary for you to give me conflicting statements, I am left with a dilemma.now, as a reasonable person, I see these conflicting statements and try to deduce Acriku's actual position. Note that #3 is indeed a powerful one because it represents his signature- his tagline that he uses to identify himself with. This particular statement appears wherever Acriku appears. Statement #4 does not. Because no clarification is given in his identifying signature, I conclude that the true views of Acriku are encapsulated in #1-3 and not in #4.I could be wrong, but due to the conflicting statements, that is my personal conclusion. Of course, I always may conclude otherwise pending future clarification in his signature or other statements Acriku makes.
Edric O Posted January 20, 2003 Posted January 20, 2003 So if I quoted Hitler and put a horrible racist comment in my sig because I thought it sounded funny, that would not be giving any message? ::)
emprworm Posted January 20, 2003 Posted January 20, 2003 "Empr, don't be such an idiot"thanks for that wonderful compliment Nema. That you may secretly agree with the statement "Religion is such an enemy to the intellect, it must be hell to be a Christian with a high school diploma" does not by any means cause me to withdraw in highlighting this apparent double standard of communication I see. Its my opinion, and I believe a reasonable one. YOu dont have to agree, but I'm not calling you and idiot for it.
