Optimize WinXP

Recommended Posts

I was wondering, when i start computer and log in to windows XP, should there be 21 processes? the only programs that are in the bottom right corner are Zonealarm, norton antivirus and volume control.

In msconfig, under startup, there are 6 total things. 4 of them are "located" somewhere under microsoft. one other is zonealarm, and the last is powerReg scheduler.

I am wondering under the service tab what ones would be safe to turn off, and if i did turn them off would they speed up computer a lot.(to many to write down, hope there is a shortcut)

Something i dont like about winxp is that i can never find directx diag.(hope you can direct me to it) adn would you reccommend I install directx 9?( i think it is out)

I have a P4 1.7 ghz 512 Ram 32mb integrated vid card(tnt2)

There could be 21 processes. Nothing wrong with that.

You could upgrade to 9.0, althought it is still a Beta.

I had no problems with it myslef. [ unlike DirectX 8.1 ], just make shure your version of MS Windows is legal or dowload the cracked one.

They arn't all neaded. [ if you have the same as I have ]

But killing them is a little bit over the edge I think.

I you can run XP, you'r PC in powerfull enought to deal with an extra pair of processes.

But if you like you can always lookuse an programm to optimise your system, Norton Systemworks or something simular.

ok thanks. just that my pc seems slower than it should.

I just went to pcpitstop.com and tested computer.. i noticed it said i have DirectX version 5.1.2600.29 (xpclnt_qfe.010827-1803) I am wondering if this means that my win8.1 was overwritten by older directx version.

And i still cant find directx diag.
