Wrong. A 1-dimensional straight line is infinite. But a 1-dimensional circle is very much finite. That is how you can have finite dimensions - "circles".

Yes quondam, that is what I was talking about. But as I understand it, the radius of those dimensions is nowhere near 10 cm. More like the radius of a subatomic particle...

Imagine 1D "space". Only possibility of it is a straight line. Circle is 1D object, but can exist only in 2D. Dimension is always defined in lines, if you want to curve line, you need next dimension. Space is an 3D axis - it isn't object. Axis can't be circle.

How do we know? These dimensions have only there finite length by which to measure them, and so we can only measure them in term of their 'circumference'.

I agree with TMA - There is no real way we can discuss such detail accurately within a forum... not without a good degree in physics and an extended character set each.

Mathematics exist. You can count with n-dimensions (analytical geometry, remember?). It isn't "fact", as all mathematic things are very abstract definitions. But this abstraction helps us to understand reality. Look at physics - everything can be negated, just change the enviroment (of course, not everything, only that connected to math). But mathematics? It's laws are unchangable, not dogmatic as other sciences usually are (until someone like Newton or Einstein comes), but really untouchable.

A circle is a 1-dimensional "universe". The fact that there must be at least 2 dimensions outside of it is irrelevant to any observer within the circle!

And of course, in the end TMA is right. We probably have no idea what we're talking about. But it's a good conversation nonetheless. :)

But what if time the universe and everything is all created by humans. We need to explain it so we put a "higher power" in control of it, or we try and use science to explain it but what if it was all created by our own conciousness?

yeah nothing wrong with speculating. I see it as dreaming. Just dream. Dont put science in where things are unsure. I just wanted to post this as a sort of place to dream all of the imaginations you have on the universe. Like for me, I see the universe as something beautiful. Just think, right now while we are talking there could be horribly beautiful visions of nebulas hazing about with their massive cloud-like structures. Just think, there could be planets ten times more beautiful than our own, exotic matter that we have never dreamed of floating in space. There are places where a brushstroke would rape its beauty. I am just at awe of it. I thank the Lord for it.

EdricO, you can't define "shape" in 1D. But when measuring, it is, as everything, composed of infinite number of points! Only a point isn't infinite. For any number we need just these: 0, 10e-oo (in R; in N it's 1) and oo (infinite). Everything is definable by this "holy mathematic trinity".

Is it possible to put a name to each of the the 11 dimensions? such as length or are they currently know as simply being spheres till further research is undertaken

Also, is there any info regarding the matter currently pending ? it would probably be worthwile to have an info scource so that we would know the length of the dimension sphere to be (say) 10cm or similar to a sub-atomic particle

Number of hypothetical dimensions is infinite. Or only one exists. If is possible existence of next dimension, than is also possible existence of third and then of fourth, fifth...going to oo.
