fog is something every rts needs..i mean wc3 has horrible fog thats always on but u get used to it (and its the same for every1 so dont bitch about it).

And when i played emp if i couldnt reveal all his base (esp with fog on) i could hear what i needed to know. even with his base blacked out i would hear his guild/ix building getting placed.

LOL your not gonna tell me you'd be hovering over his base all the time listening to what he puts down, are you? ;D

I had to do that ALL the time when I played atreides campers. It was the only possible way to know what was coming when there was fog. If I heard building sounds, I'd make unit defense and drone defense. If I heard a fremen tent I'd adapt, same with Ix and Guild too.

Fog favours the defender and the sneaker, I'd much rather play without it. It makes it more of a chance game.

IMO, QM should have nothing but pre-built. I've lost too many games and won too many games from stupid stuff like getting an NIAB crate early, losing 2 harvs early, or having Shi-Haluds eat all your units. In one game I lost 28 NIAB tanks to 3 different Shi-Haluds. I think I literally popped a blood vessel when I saw the third one's electric shocks paralyze a group of 10 NIAB harv killers.

Fog wouldn't be so bad if scouts weren't so weak. They're always seem to be killed by dust storms, spice blooms, or random rolling units like harvs. It's like they're magnets for enemy units. It's ridiculas.

I know u can hear what kind of buildings are beeing placed.

I just meant that u cant be hearing all that they are placing simply cos u wont always be there to hear it, in a funny way.

but your funny too ;D

But i agree that can be mighty handy hearing a guild palace or ix fact beeing placed. good wake up call ;)

i hate fog of war. i just got empire earth and it's in it ALL the time. you can't take it off. and there is not such thing as a scout and no unit that can see a lot. it's utterly annoying when you demolish a base and then on the way back you get ambushed by an army and a base that appeared.

That really sucks, Rogue. FOW is my most hated aspect of RTS games. When I was more of a noob in RTS, I used it as a crutch, or at least tried to. I just tried to keep my base from being scouted while getting my sneak attack ready. Now, I just want to see what the other guy is doing, and I don't mind if he sees what I am doing. That's like a speed chess game. Nothing wrong with seeing and reacting, rather than not seeing and hoping you get it right anyhow.

At the very least, FOW should ALWAYS be optional, even in tourney games. I hate it as a default setting. With one good patch, Westwood could have fixed QM. Instead, we are stuck with FOW, LW, 6K, crates, and small maps. I agree with Ace, as usual--I hate losing or winning any game because of luck. Although real war does have elements of luck, I think they ruin a good contest.

I agree with you Taqwa, I don't like fog of war either. It really is annoying when I see it in a game. I always use the off switch if I have a say.

I like living world but never turn it on (online anyway) cause the computer struggles.

I like crates for some reason :)

Wasn't there a poll done about this......I think the majority were agains it. Does anyone remember?
