Mythology in Dune

I put this post in General forum because it goes beyond Dune in many ways. Anybody notice how creative the mythology is in the Dune universe? I still think there is some sort of connection with Scientology and other secretive groups. What do you guys think?

So, most things (Mahdi, Shai-Hulud...) is copied from arabian legends. Just combined with nice sci-fi.

What I liked from the books was the combination of religions.

Buddislam - Buddhism and Islam

Bene Gesserit - Protestant and Catholic (Orange Catholic Bible)

BG were not religious.

Bene Gesserit is more like an order, based on teachings of imperial ecumenical church.

I never called them a particularly religious bunch, I know that they are an order. But they have a bible, that lays down strictures of how people should act. The Orange Catholic Bible was written after the Butlerian Jihad by as far as I can tell, the sorceresses. They were just a bunch of psychics with telikinetic powers.

well to me they use religion as a disguise for their projects. They play a totally different role in front of people that are not their kind so that their motives are not obvious at all. They are my least favorite group. I li ke the spacing guild. They have it going on.lol anyways the mythology is extremely eastern. Christianity is almost never mentioned.

Christianity, as well as other religions in Duniverse, is evolved. I know it's a nonsense due to dogmatic core of believe, but it's Herbert's view, and he was an atheist as far as I know. After the Djihad came many new religious leaders, which created OC Bible as a core of future united compromisional church. Second Dune appendix is talking about it.
