Where in the strings etc do you find the .tga files associated with icons?

That's not in strings, that's in 3ddata.

the icons themselves are in 3DData/textures/

and to apply them to a unit see the artini.txt.

try searching in the directory for

for instance AT_Sniper.tga

and then the grey version will be AT_Sniper_grey.tga

I mean... they should be there...

grey comes first but it isn't capitalized.

i renamed them when i used them in guild wars 3 thats why i wrote that.

Still surely it was enough to give the general jist?

Make a new folder someone. Name it whatever you want. Now use DuneEx2 to extract ALL the files in 3DDATA001.RFH to the folder that you just created. Now open up the ArtIni.txt. Look at the names of the icons (e.g. AT_Sniper.tga for the Atreides Sniper) that the units and buildings use. Now copy the name of the icon but leave out the quotation marks on the sides. Click on Start, and run 'Find'. Paste the name of the .tga file into the search area, and search for the file. Provided you got the name right, you should definitely find it.

DuneEx just extract files as generic "files", no extension or anything...at least for me. :-
