atrd3m0n Posted October 11, 2002 Posted October 11, 2002 Hi all.I have some questions about what causes an Out Of Sync, hereafter called OOS.The most common reason I've heard is moneytrainers and stuff causing this. But what else can be a reason for OOS?Cos I've played a friend of mine lately and the OOS's were numerous. I mean, 3 or 4 out of 6 1v1 games went OOS!And i never have OOS that much, especially with one and the same player! He has LW and SW on, and I know he uses a high resolution.I know him in real life, and we have the same provider. He's kinda a noob, and since he kept losing and is kinda a bad loser he now uses the OOS as an accusation at my adress that i use a trainer. Well all ppl who know me know that i win or lose fair. Its kinda annoying that the game goes OOS and on top of it get occused of using a trainer of some kind, while I dont.So any additory explanations are welcome.Until next post (lol yeah vilgent i like that ending so I rip it from you. rofl 8)
Marcel71 Posted October 11, 2002 Posted October 11, 2002 It is when the "counter" on the server is not correct with the "counter" on your or your opponents computer. It could be units, money etc..It is not always caused by trainers. Firewalls, and package loss on the internet can have the same situation.Imagine you build a unit but somehow it is not received by the server. Then the game would go out of sync. It's something like that...
pointybum Posted October 11, 2002 Posted October 11, 2002 Didnt Mr Gob say some time ago that once the game is launched the data packets are inter-changed between the desktops, outside WOL. Sounds plausable to me if all the onus is left to the end user to have a good connection most of the time, after all, it is free. As I heard with Generals, there is a monthly charge included on the on-line experience - I guess the lagg situations and anything else internet related would be diminished, or not as frequently bad, if one is paying for it. Maybe I am being too optimistic. There is a lot of confusion on the lagging part too, who causes it etc. Some say its down to cpu power, or the modem etc. If Mr Gob's comment is true then it is down to those variables - cpu power to chug out the data, and then the reliability of the ISP to transmit that data, not forgetting the personal choice of setts - i.e low res setts, music off, and active desktop off etc.My experiences tell me that out of synch, a genuine one that is, pops up after a temporary lag. Any other time it is either caused by the trainer program or by deliberation.
atrd3m0n Posted October 11, 2002 Author Posted October 11, 2002 Hm well thats the strange thing, it wasnt laggy or something, the game was running pretty good, about the speed as if i played the computer, maybe a bit slower. And boom suddenly the game went out of sync
Elite47 Posted October 11, 2002 Posted October 11, 2002 some ppl have a tendency to go OOS more often. I'd guess probably from their computer and ISP and westwood online not getting along too well.
Marcel71 Posted October 11, 2002 Posted October 11, 2002 So, the result is: When out of Sync does not mean there i cheating going on..
pointybum Posted October 11, 2002 Posted October 11, 2002 well, its hard to say.. You can look at it in many ways. Was there much action? If the answer is no then the guy is testing the button. Was there plenty of action and the guy was on the edge of losing? Then he's 'testing' the button. But if the message popped out after a short lag... Then I'd say .........'oh bollocks'. ;)
Gobalopper Posted October 11, 2002 Posted October 11, 2002 Once the game starts you are directly connected to the other players. The host is the server in this case and I think the only time you would connect to WOL would be when you get a page. The data is only sent to their servers at the end of a game.OOS can happen a number of ways but bad ISP connections is usually the biggest reason. Also if you or your partner edited any of your files, say the Rules.txt file then you will go OOS.As for Generals you don't have to pay for it, in fact WW isn't even having official ladders for it.
pointybum Posted October 11, 2002 Posted October 11, 2002 Thanks very much Mr Gob. ;DSo really, the onus is definately put on the end user.. Is this the same process used by other games manufacturers?
Caid Ivik Posted October 12, 2002 Posted October 12, 2002 Don't use mods or unofficial patches. Synchonization between players must crash then.
