Stronghold

Stronghold - a rated Game of the Year in many PC games magazines. I've baught this game recently and I really like it. Well it has crapy graphics but it doesn't effect the game. So I think Stronghold is a RTS masterpiece. What do you think :)?

well it is a very good game indeed, sieging and defending castles is incredibly fun and about the graphix, they're not that bad considering the complexity of the engine. unfortunately the AI is a bit crappy but luckily that is fixed in stronghold crusader which has recently been released and looks realy cool.

I think I will finish the original Stronghold before moving to the holy land. Damn it's hot down there I will fry in my heavy armor 8) ;D

yeah, well i haven't finished stronghold single player yet either, those briefings are pretty damn funny though, i just love the rat :D

it's awsome, defending is a bit more relaxing though :). those damn archers and crosbowmen on the walls annoy the hell out of you

Yep :) once I sent 50 swordsmen to atack the walls and they all became shichcebab ;D

not even talking about that oil, argh. no actually sieging is pretty damn annoying :) defending is my motto! :)

In other words when you want to atack, you go build a castle 5 meters away from your enemy's castle and you begin defending it :)

If you are talking about the original Stronghold that came out in the early 90s than you are right. It is a classic. It is one of the greatest games made.

I think archers are overpowered...hopefully they tone them down a bit in crusader...

i don't know the original stronghold, this new one is like only 1 year old or something. crusader only half a month.

archers are not that overpowered, crossbowmen are. there's not much that can beat them when they are in their towers or on the walls behind a moat except for siege weapons

the original stronghold can be found at old abandonware sites. It is amazing. One of the first that used a type of "3-d" graphics. It was made by the guys who make D & D games.

The archers are just fine you wimps ;)

You just don't have a good strategy, mine is for those little siges(attacking):

have 100-150 archers, and 95 pike men.

send the archers to take out the other archers on the wall one at a time, they'll kill more than one at a time because they're inaccurate, If you run into pitch pits, pull back adn let them burn down. Do this till yu've killed all on the wall, then send your "Pikemen Forward" :) to take down the wall and kill the enemy lord.

hmmm crossbowmen can take out 1 archer each shot and because they're in the towers or on the walls they need at least 10 arrows to die

That's true, but how many archers attacking to corssbowmen defending can you get, with enough points left over for the attacker to get 50 pikemen.

This works almost every time for me on Hard, and 50% on Hardest.

Sometimes I don't even need to touch the walls, I can simply kill off the lord with my 100+ archers, I'm a pretty bad castle builder with limited suplies.

you know the best way to take a castle in a siege game, is just put all you got into pikemen
