Advice/tips for new modder

i can make the names appear but the icon problem i have it to

i created a sniper icon {see section "how do i easily make icons?"}and it looks funny with colors on it and if ya want

i can make the three houses large WT to have names

How do you make the names appear? Also, how do you associate icons for specific structures?

Let me ask you a question: do you think that every1 here is more intelligent than you? Do you think that every1 here knew since his birth how to mod? NO! Think of the first modder. Who do you think answered his questions? He just found the answers himself and I suggest you try to do the same. I 'm not saying it's bad to ask 1 or 2 questions, but hey!, you want someone to describe step by step how to do every single thing.

Well since I'm completely new to modding, it would be expected that people would have more idea of what they're doing than me. Isn't that obvious? ::)

I have tried finding the answers for myself. Do you think I came here wanting people to spoon feed me? :P When I'm stuck, I ask for help. There's no point in me struggling with one thing for ages when I can get help. That would be a waste of time and would be counter-productive. I didn't ask people to describe step by step how to do everything. I figured out how to enable the large windtrap by myself simply by looking at other mods and comparing the rules. Ethan's advice was only part of what I had to do, I figured the rest out for myself.

There may also be things that some people may have the capability to do, that I just can't do even if I tried. That could include making textures. I don't have Adobe Photoshop or some other advanced graphical design tool to create textures. Which means I simply can't, even if I knew how. Do you have any idea how much Adobe Photoshop costs? I'm just learning ok, so give me a little slack here... >:(

to give names go to textstring.txt modify it with your new unit name like lets say the mortar infantry section in the rules.txt

is "ORmortar" then you see in the ordos units:

ORmortar {Ordos Mortar Infantry}

where theres {bla bla bla} you write the units name and where

you saw the "ORmortar" there you supose to enter your new unit

section name in the rules.txt get it?

I think what Ghosty is saying is that it is good to try a few things first instead of always coming here immediately when you run into a problem. It is always better if you can figure things out on your own, you are always asking people how to do something you never really learn it as well as you could.

Ok, I'll accept that advice then. This thread is now locked until the mod is completed and the only help I'll need then is with the icons (large windtrap, etc, etc). :-X

Ok, I've done quite a bit of work on the mod, and I want people to test it and see what they think. Unit balance issues, bugs, etc, etc. Just tell me if you want to test it. Bear in mind that it isn't complete, so don't expect everything to be perfect. It is my first mod as well, and it's only a beta test for now. Btw Ghosty_Square, I didn't unlock this thread to ask for help.
