How do I make a thumbnail?

I've finished my first map using the Emperor Battle For Dune map editor, but I cannot make a thumbnail which means I cannot make all the files necessary to pack the map!!

The Map Editor Help file is not much help, because I do not have the program 'Photoshop' and I can't open the !05%thumb.tga file with windows Imaging, or Paint. Can anyone help me find an alternate way to make a thumbnail? I'd like to post my map here ASAP!! >:(

Okay, can someone please give me a direct link to a program that I can download, or tell me some way to make the thumbnail? The site "the gimp" seems to be just about some porn crap, and jasc has too much stuff there. I mean, what am I supposed to get? Okay, I'm at the site. Now what? ???

Well okay I'll send them to you, but does that mean that I have to keep sending you the map files every time I post a map here? I mean, shouldn't I learn to do things for myself? I appreciate help, but I can't rely on people forever, if you know what I mean.

How do you want me to get them to you? Uncompressed, they're quite large all together. (6 files, without the thumbnail).

I've already got MapPacker. The problem is you need 7 specific files to pack a map properly and compress it to .cmf format. I lack the !05%thumb.tga file (i.e. the thumbnail) for my map, so I can't use MapPacker to send the map files. I need some way of making a thumbnail like all the other people did on their maps... ???

I can successfully make a thumbnail in .jpeg or .bmp form with some careful manipulation of screen shots and cut and paste actions in windows 'Imaging' and 'Paint'. But when I create the !05%thumb.tga file as normal and then put it in the folder with the rest of the map files, Emperor crashes when I go to select the map in the list. It ends up saying something like "runtime error, invalid texture".

But yes, I do have the image in .jpeg and/or .bmp form if you want it. I just don't know how to convert the image to .tga format. :-
