vidiware Posted August 12, 2002 Posted August 12, 2002 I know this is going to be a dogfight... cuz they are almost the same. but i want to hear what a few persons think is best athlon XP or Pentium 4?I will lock this tomorrow to prevent a seriuos fight and flame war
TMA_1 Posted August 12, 2002 Posted August 12, 2002 Well right now the chips are at a stand still. Soon though AMD is coming out with the Hammer. It has increased chip cash and more bus speed. It will actually go faster than Intel's pentium 4. Currently pentium is a little better because AMD is sticking with its somewhat outdated arcitecture. It is going to be selling the hammer soon though. This will give the pentium chips a run for their money.
jacobdouds Posted August 12, 2002 Posted August 12, 2002 The top intel will always bet the top AMD, but, AMD always win in price etc, there really is nothing much to argue about, they are the same really, AMD has a lower bus or something, but... its only what you can aford after all.
Nyarlathotep Posted August 12, 2002 Posted August 12, 2002 Concerning the price, AMD outclasses Intel on all fronts, no discussion possible.Concerning performance, starting from the Intel P4 2.4Gmz (FSB533Mhz), Intel outclasses AMD, currently no dicussion possible.Like TMA said, a new AMD processor is coming out and as far as I have seen things, it will not beat Intels higher precessor class (P4 2.8Ghz and P4 3.0Ghz). What one needs to understand, is that Intel P4 only reaches it's high performance in combination with PC1066 (and soon DDR400) memory. If one decides to go for PC800, it won't peform as good as with PC1066 memory.I am an Intel fan and will always prefer Intel above AMD. This due to many problems I had in the past with AMD chipsets. No matter what anyone posts here, the discusiion about processors is one of personal opinion and money. As for future posters, please try to keep this discussion flame and name calling free.
Marcel71 Posted August 12, 2002 Posted August 12, 2002 hehe, before the thread closes: Who cares about 2.2 or 2.4 GHz??The price is much more important. And the processor is just a part of the whole computer. And like a chain, the weakest link will determine how strong the whole chain is!!
DS_CL Posted August 12, 2002 Posted August 12, 2002 I always buy AMD. I find that the difference in the processor speeds of the Athlon and Pentium aren
vidiware Posted August 12, 2002 Author Posted August 12, 2002 Well if the professionals dont reccomant something other i will choose AMD (cheaper thats all i like inntel better)Im closing now
