htis is a devinoch (cliff hicks) interview posted over at cnc nation:

Today we have an interview with Mr. Renegade himself. Cliff Hicks, aka Devinoch has taken time out of his incredibly busy schedule to answer some questions for ya'.

1) Why was the Reckon Bike taken out of C&C Mode?

Devinoch: The team never got to the point with being comfortable of how it handled. It never *felt* like a bike. It wasn't responding how a bike would handle. And since the bike wasn't essential for balance, it was removed and the game was balanced around it.

2) Nod has one more vehicle then GDI, were their any plans to for another GDI unit to balance things out? If so what was it and why was it cut out?

Devinoch: There were no plans for another GDI unit that I am aware of. If there were any plans for another GDI unit, they were taken out early in Renegade's development. I don't think that there were any other vehicles planned, though.

3) What was the hardest part of balancing C&C mode?

Devinoch: It just took a lot of time. We had to adjust and adjust and adjust and adjust, and a lot of the data was based on how the more competent players reacted. It's just not a quick process you can snap your fingers at and go "Oh, balanced now!" You have to devise tests, you have to study play styles... there's a lot that goes into it.

4) What was the reason for Air vehicles not making it onto the final cut?

Devinoch: We just didn't have the time to add them in and do them properly without adding a ton of research time. After the game was gold mastered, the team began putting in a lot of R&D time to get them to work, to figure out how to balance everything accordingly and just busted their butts to make it happen post launch.

5) Are the plans for an expansion?

Devinoch: As for an expansion, we haven't announced anything, so obviously I can't comment at this time.

6) If you could change one thing in renegade, what would it be?

Devinoch: Hehehe... well, I personally think Renegade would be even more incredible if the netcode could handle 128-256 players simultaneously on one server, but I think we're still a long ways off from anyone being even remotely close to doing that.

7) What is the best and worst part of being Community Manager for and game like Renegade?

Devinoch: The best part is that you get to keep in touch with all the fans, and you get to meet a ton of people and learn about the wide variety of people who play our games. The worst part is that you never get as much sleep as you'd like. =>

8) You’re the guy who supposedly knows the most about Renegade. Could you tell all the Noobie Renegade's out there the best strategy you have scene to date?

Devinoch: There are dozens of great strategies, but the best thing I can tell new players is to work together. Good teamwork can trump anything else.

9) Do you like GDI or NOD better? What’s your favorite tank and character on each side?

Devinoch: Give me a Mammoth tank and a target... And believe me, the Doctor is IN. If I do play Nod (although I do prefer GDI) I'm usually a Stealth Solider, although I'm often in a flame tank.

10) What’s the best fan site in the Renegade Community?

Devinoch: Like any good parent, I refuse to play favorites among my children. Everyone's awesome and picking one as "the best" devalues all the hard work all the fansites do.

Thanks much for your time.

Devinoch: No problem.

this just reminda me the good old days when devinoch used to say the usual "no further palns, we already did our big bucks, let's move on to the next game" lines.

like this whole interview seems like "we were lazy, so we didn't do it".

Too bad it's a problem for Devinoch to ever give the Emperor community one iota of his time.
