I'm up for any pre-EA C&C games, but a better idea would be a dune mod for C&C since it is easier to mod..

well yea you are right cause for now we can only mod less stuff in dune...

feda what do you say lets team up and make a dune mod for cnc??

Some CnCNet guys have started it IIRC, not sure if they continued doing it though. It was a RA1 mod. We can do it; but first we need to learn more about the RA engine, I dont know very much about how it works. I'm referring to the unit sprites (size etc.) , icons (the SHPs) etc. Or we can try using the existing OpenRA Dune2k mod and improve it / add new stuff etc. :D I heared OpenRA is easy to mod, though I honestly dont understand very much from the tuts they give.

The standard C&C can be done, not the Red Alert series. Since Red Alert 1 you have subfaction that have modifiers. Never understood why they neglected that in Dune 2000 that is a newer game.

Different engine and developers.

Factions don't matter, just set all allied factions with the same parameters and all soviet factions with the same parameters.

Well aqib search for which game allows you to have 3 sides cuz both C&C and RA have only 2 sides, but it may be possible to add new one.

RA1 has 8 sides?

Anyway, I suggest the open source of RA1. From the wiki:

Just like its predecessor Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn, Red Alert attracted many Game engine recreation attempts which share source code because the file formats and gameplay mechanics are very similar. FreeRA is an Open Source clone written in C++ and Lua using the SDL libraries that is not developed anymore.[29] A modern reimplementation of the engine in C# and YAML called OpenRA allows high screen resolutions. It uses the original game graphics, but is rebalanced and optimized for multiplayer matches. The graphical user interface uses a Red Alert 3 style tabbed menu, unit movement lines as in Red Alert 2 and a live map as the main-menu background like C&C: Generals. It also features capturable oil derricks that generate income over time as a new game-play element inspired by Generals and adds new units such as a flak truck like the one in Red Alert 2. It is also highly moddable.[30]

And the snow biome with a yellow layer could easily be turned into a dessert? But then again, perhaps some artists could add stuff.

If you want to use an engine from another game, not created by Westwood or EA-games. Then use the Starcraft 2 editor. However, this will not supply you with a stand alone game.

For that, perhaps from scratch?

Edit:

Just a thought, using the Warzone 2100 open source?

Allow players to design their own dune units ^^. Placing a gun on a devastator would be funny. But you could also just fix it in such a way that the units are already designed. It would come close to emperor battle for dune.

It wont be that hard for the programmers? Redesigning textures, redesigning models. But there needs to be some research if it is possible to have more then 1 faction. After all, all the factions in the single player game are the same. They only simply have more advanced technology to start with. But this could be used as well for making the factions. Simply adding and removing units from the list a player can use.

Complex, but not hard to learn. Players need guidance at first. And I still remember how I barely managed to end each mission with the heaviest possible unit. These days I know how to design units.

Anyway, you wanted to make a new C&C game? Or a new Dune game? It isn't clear to me.
