SandChigger
Hasn't Koontz repudiated KJA's involvement in the writing? Isn't his the only name that appears on new editions of the book? :D
Dunenewt
I guessed they were close at one point, because a quote from Koontz would always appear on the back of the new Dune books, but if he has repudiated KJA's involvement, I guess that's why KJA hasn't mentioned it. SandChigger
Yeah, KJA never mentions anything that doesn't paint himself in the best possible light. This page on Amazon, for the newest, July 2009 paperback edition, still lists Anderson as an author but the Look Inside view of the cover doesn't show his name anywhere.Maybe Koontz knew a movie deal was in the pipe and bought Anderson off for a price? "Besides, Kev, you've got that Dune movie deal coming!" ;) (I have to admit, I rather like the idea of them having fallen out. I can't imagine anyone (with a working brain, that is) being able to put up with Anderson for long.)
MrFlibble
So what's with Koontz anyway? (I've heard this being mentioned before, but don't know any details)
SandChigger
Not sure, really. I think I read maybe one or two or his books when I was in high school or just at uni. Can't remember whether he's a better hack than KJA or not! :)
MrFlibble
I mean, what happened between him and KJA? Did they (attempt to) co-write something?
Dunenewt
Dean Koontz's quote is on the back of Winds of Dune still, I think its been on every new Dune book.
nampigai
I've only read one of Koontz book...come to think of it I never finished it. Can't recall the title but I think I moved on to a King book instead.
MrFlibble
Dean Koontz's quote is on the back of Winds of Dune still, I think its been on every new Dune book.So what does it say?
Dunenewt
"Frank Herbert would surely be delighted and proud at this continuation of his vision" ~ Dean Koontz
SandChigger
"Frank Herbert would surely be delighted and proud at this continuation of his vision" ~ Dean KoontzWhere do these idiots get off saying crap like that? Did Koontz know Herbert personally & well enough to made a pronouncement like that? Sheesh. ::)
Dunenewt
Koontz had his first novel published in 1969, so its possible they met, although I've never read anything about it, other than that one quote, which is on the back of every new Dune book I've got. SandChigger
Yeah, I love how they do that, too: put quotes from favorable reviews of FH's books on the back, with the attributions in reeeeeeally teeeeeeeeeeeny print.Gah.
MrFlibble
"Frank Herbert would surely be delighted and proud at this continuation of his vision"Yeah, because Dean Koontz says so! :P
SandChigger
Reminded me of a Twit from Twitter yesterday morning:FACT: The writing in #Dune prequels by Brian Herbert [son of Frank Herbert] & Kevin J Anderson is flawless perfection Frank would love.I asked him if he were a medium in touch with FH's spirit, that he knew such "facts".There really is a lot of stupid out there, isn't there? :(
