Sardaukar/Jihadi ranks

BASHAR (often Colonel Bashar): an officer of the Sardaukar a fractional point

above Colonel in the standardized military classification. Rank created for

military ruler of a planetary subdistrict. (Bashar of the Corps is a title

reserved strictly for military use.)

BURSEG: a commanding general of the Sardaukar.

CAID: Sardaukar officer rank given to a military official whose duties call

mostly for dealings with civilians; a military governorship over a full

planetary district; above the rank of Bashar but not equal to a Burseg.

...now the rank designations were taken from an ancient military in the golden age of mankind, dating from the Old Empire or even beyond, levenbrech, bator, burseg,bashar...

What other ranks were there, and in what order?  I remember Segundo, Primero, and two others...Tert-something and Quarto?

Primero, Segundo, Tercero and Quarto are all ranks that are given in the League military, back in the days of the Butlerian Jihad.  However, there seem to be different "grades" within those ranks as well.

For example, Primero Meach was the overseer of all of Salusa Secundus' military before being blown to bits.  Xavier Harkonnen, being the highest ranking officer left, was only a Tercero at the time, but gets promoted to "Tercero, First Grade" after the flames had died down.

Whether or not you consider the prequels to be canon or not, however, is another thing.

In addition, the Dune Encyclopaedia makes no mention of specific ranks (that I can find), though it does acknowledge that they exist.  It mainly focuses on specific titles, medals and badges that can be awarded or presented during or after service.

Also, a Sardaukar Captain Aramsham is mentioned in Dune.

And what about the Fremen? Did they have ranks?

The Fremen are not a military organization in a strict sense, so they didn't have "ranks", rather positions and occupations. Naib, for example, is more of a tribal leader than a general. The Fedaykin are called "death commandos", so its not a rank name either. The Quizarate, on the other hand, did have a hierarchy of ranks, but I'm not sure if any specifics were given in DM or CoD.
