Anathema
If a house vs house (vs house) conflict like depicted in the games would take place, all the combatants would be forced to improvise because use of shields is limited to rocky areas. I think that mobile artillery would be used quite a lot, maybe even infantry fighting verhicles. Heavy tanks as we know them seem unlikely. Lasguns would cut through pretty much everything, so heavy armour wouldn't be all that protective for its cost.Consider that the armored verhicle tradition has gone completely extinct the duniverse. Even though they have superior technical knowledge you wouldn't expect them to churn out such war material the first couple of years, for the simple reason that the assembly lines for such verhicles would have to be built from scrap.[c/]
MrFlibble
I think the warfare on Dune with its background like described in the books would mostly consist of airdrops of large numbers of infantry, and melee fighting. Ornithopters would be used to strike from the air, too.
Dunenewt
Ornithopters can be shielded too, right?
MrFlibble
Yes. It is mentioned somewhere in the first book that a Sardaukar (if memory serves well) 'thopter was not shielded, as to increase its carrying capacity by removal of the shield-generating equipment.
