it's a nice free program that yahoo bought (and made free)

www.konfabulator.com

it's definitely worth a look, it's similar to mac os X tiger's dashboard, but konfab is mac and pc friendly

I should mention my issue too, heh. well my microsoft outlook doesn't work (necessary with the PIM overview I guess) when I try to start outlook I get this message 'connot start microsoft outlook'

Hmm, it looks interesting, I was looking at windowblinds yesterday with a macosX theme.

Although I don't like the konfabulator main page as it didn't tell me what the hell it is :P

Does konfabulator take up much system resources? I am guessing it would depend on what widget you use?

Ok, I installed konfabulator, and am currently using the weather plugin ;) that would make it the 5th weather service I am using on this computer :D

Also installed windows blinds. Boy my computer is running slow, but I'm not going to really decide whether to keep it or not until I reboot and defrag. Since my computer has been running for 24 hours.

Check the desktop thread in general to see what it looks like.

Installed http://www.widgetgallery.com/view.php?widget=36928

radar service, but I am trying to get http://www.weatheroffice.ec.gc.ca/radar/index_e.html?id=XNC

image to show, trying to figure out how to get it to work with environment canada

I can get the image to show, but it will not update as it is pointing to a specific image. Need wildcard.

Local radar would be sooo nice on the desktop.

Found: http://sirocco.accuweather.com/nx_mosaic_400x300c/SIR/inmSIRNS_.gif  but it is ugly and quite innaccurate compared to environment canada

I have the werewolf monitor, the weather one, the cpu usage, word of the day, to do list, and the calender on my desktop, I can't get the PIM overview to work because my microsoft outlook isn't working :-(. It doesn't take much for normal comp use, but I turn it off when playing BF2 or any high resource app

Search for werewolf and it returned no results. Their search sucks. :(

Have you tried to back up your profile for outlook (forget which file it is exactly, I know with outlook 2003 professional there were a couple files to back up that contained my emails and meetings.

Then install

Exactly which version are you using?

Ladies, please, someone explain what this dang-funny-named program does. Explain it to someone who hasnt seen "mac os X tiger's dashboard".

Many thanks.

The main program does nothing really, you need to get plugins to make it useful.

Currently I have the radar image and weather stuck on my desktop.

It does whatever the plugins do. So maybe look through the plugins area to see what plugins would interest you.

In short, OSX Dashboard is a sort of second screen which holds a number of widgets. Little programs that show the local weather, date, an FTP client or indead basically whatever you want. The nice part is that you do not need to waith before the programm is loaded. Just access the second layer of the screen.

The downside is that it is just a bout the same security risk for Apple as ActiveX has been for Microsoft in regard to IE.
