"Even when I turn on the option of "Use visual styles on windows and buttons", "

"Under performance options in system properties, I have everything unchecked."

Is the 'custom' radio button selected when you leave the performance dialogue box?

Try setting it to "Use visual styles on windows and buttons", then clicking Apply, then seeing if it reverts.

I have the custom radio button selected.

I try the winxp styles checkbox, but it doesn't work I am able to check it then hit apply and ok and stuff, but it does nothing, and when I go back into it it is unchecked. I even tried checking everything else, which seemed to work (excpet the visual styles). My guess is it got messed up after uninstalling stylexp and those other programs.

I don't want to do a system restore. Because that takes too much time.

Go to 'Control Panel' -> Adminstrative Tools -> Services

Select 'Themes' and click 'Start' on the left pane. Then try selecting Visual Styles as you did before, either in 'Display' or 'System'. Also go into properties of 'themes' and make sure the dropdown is 'Automatic' not 'manual' or 'disabled'.

Did all of that. Themes was already running, so I stopped it and started it. Then went into system/display, turned on visual styles, yet it did nothing like usual.

"Themes" is on automatic.

No luck.
