Womble used our news submit to inform us that the game "Knights of Honor" by Black Sea Studios/Sunflower contains a copy-protection that seems to remove  the file deamon.dll from our harddisks. This file is part of the DAEMON Tools software, an application with which you can emulate certain copy-protections. Futuremore, the game requires a "burning software clean" system. So what does this mean for us? Is it legal to force customers to uninstall software? What will come next?

Well, this is nice. Can't wait until I'll come to a page disabling CTRL-C to prevent download of its text...

This sucks. Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow required me to uninstall CloneCD and Daemon Tools as well >:(

Granted, I just downloaded the latest Alcohol 120%, which the game couldn't detect, but still. I'm surprised that publishers can do this; those programs are completely legal. Imagine the outcries if the next version of Office would require you to remove Firefox from your system; yet this is seemingly allowed.

Don't give that evil corporation known as Microsoft any ideas... *shudders*

The Sims 2 had a similar problem. It wouldn't run if it detected any CD-copying programs. There are ways around it, and I think a patch was released after the outcry, but still...

Sad indeed,  I also use Daemon tools but really no more than the fact that I can preserve original cd's by using the virtual drives with this program. I agree though next will be Microsoft somehow doing to programs what Wal-mart is doing to thier competition.
